Good morning all you people on this warmish Christmas Eve, only one more sleep before you discover if you have been naughty or nice.
I woke this morning in my camper on a chilly morning, it was only 10° inside the camper though I was lovely and warm under the covers. It is supposed to get up into mid 20s today and low 30s Christmas day.
Again was up early to do that last minute shopping for berries, fruit, bread rolls etc, we did buy 1.5 kg of prawns (weren’t going to but decided it wouldn’t be Christmas without prawns)
Had to drive to the other side of Canberra to find a spare gas bottle for the barbie - nothing could be worse than running out of gas on Christmas Day in the middle of feast preparations and all the Bunnings nearer had completely sold out.
The parentals (son in law’s parents) have gone out for a drive in their electric car, we had a great evening at the club with them while they charged their car last night. It was $16 Schnitty night (I still had a steak) but now we are just waiting for my youngest son and his GF to arrive from Sydney.
The humidity is about 20%, I can always tell when it is low because the fingerprint recognition on my phone doesn’t recognise me any more and I have to re-register it.
How are your Christmas preparations coming along? Excited or what?
I had an amazing time last night at a Christmas Concert , it was like being at a huge party , dancing in the aisle , singing along to all the Christmas songs , Ive never experienced such a feel good atmosphere .
Rounded it off with a Mac take away .
Going this evening to a Church candle lit Carol service , its usually packed , might have to stand .
Ive a dog sitter in to keep my dog company .
Morning all – weather is damp and grey with top temperatures forecast to be 12c
Well, Bruce as a much younger woman I was naughty – but it was nice!!
My visitors have safely arrived home in Australia – it is my hope to be able to visit them all next Christmas to help celebrate Mum’s 100th birthday
Cleaner has left the house sparkling and ready for Christmas – does make me feel lazy!! My sister in law arrived yesterday afternoon with gifts and cards. We had a lovely chat (and a glass of wine!), she needed a break from all the Christmas chaos. She usually drops in when in need of a sympathetic ear and to be able to relax and I am always happy to see her.
Neighbours have very kindly invited me to join them for Christmas Day but I have declined – Christmas is time to spend with their family.
Not much planned for today - before my husband died he made me promise to buy myself a Christmas present from him every year, which I have done, and I will be wrapping it and putting it under the tree, silly I know but it makes me feel it is actually a present from him.
Take care – hope everyone has a lovely day and manages to get all their Christmas shopping finished!
An early morning call from Mrs Fox to remind me that Tesco would be hectic and all the bread would be gone if I didn’t move my bottom…Not in so many words though…
So without further ado, while Mrs Fox and friend did an assault on M&S I wiped the sleep out of my eyes and trundled off to Tesco…
It was bread heaven…Bread everywhere, and although quite busy for early morning, not uncomfortable. I loaded up the trolley with bread, beans (for emergencies) cakes, biscuits and crisps…All the important stuff…And made a run for it…
Next minute I was in the shower and planning a quick few miles on the bike…
Mrs Fox has gone graveside with a wreath, I’m off out into the wild country roads of south Yorkshire…
Happy Christmas everyone…
The men are off to the barber, and I am back from a nice run with the pelicans who were breakfasting on mullet along the shallow shoreline this morning. I feel fortunate to be outdoors on a day like this!
I am “on” today with most of the next two days preparing treats and meals and making sure that we hold to the family traditions - midnight church service (at ten p.m.), watching old family movies and slides, playing board games, and generally putting on the dog.
I am super excited that Santa has left the North Pole!
I’m having a rest at the moment in front of Netflix, by the fireplace, waiting to start cooking for our traditional Christmas Eve fishy supper.
Freezing outside, I can hear the strong North wind blowing, and this afternoon I could see the snow coming down on our nearby mountain tops. A spectacular sight, watching them getting whiter and whiter, but no snow down here, luckily.
@Rose2 I don’t think it was tradition here (other than been a Yorkshire thing) but we had fish, chips and mushy peas last night at our local fish restaurant, and it was delicious…Perhaps you had sent a mental message… @Surfermom You complemented me on my total mileage on a previous thread, but I bet you weren’t far behind me. Do you keep a log or journal of all your outings?
And just straying from the subject…What about this probe that is hurtling towards the sun and is the fastest man (or woman) made thing that we have ever created…Something like 400,000 mph…
I managed to get round an eight mile running route on the bike and out in the country. The sun actually came out during the ride, and if it wasn’t for the headwind on the way home I wouldn’t have been totally wiped out when I dismounted…
You wouldn’t believe I could have been so much out of shape, it’s only been three months since my last bike ride…
The sky was spectacular tonight as Christmas Eve comes to and end…
Well it’s almost at an end, but first there is the midnight mass at the church and Mrs Fox always attends…I can’t let her walk the mile or so to the church on her own at that time of night without some company…
I’ll call her friend and see if she is available…
What a stunning Christmas Eve photo, OGF! The Parker Probe is indeed making its death spiral into the sun, clicking along with its measurements the last I read. I can’t imagine spending so many years of calculations and meticulous work only to watch it make its slow death dive.
Yes, I have been tracking my miles and we are a neck-and-neck…or foot-in-foot, as the case may be.
What a lovely night for a walk to church. I hope you enjoy it - and behave .
The cinnamon rolls are about done with their proving, so it’s back to the kitchen.
Thanks Surfermom, and a very happy Christmas to you…
I would have thought that we know just about everything we need to know about the suns activity, but it still sounds terribly exciting. Sort of Icarus 21st century style…
Talking about the wonders of the universe, the sky was perfect and clear on our late night walk to the church for midnight mass, a very nice service by the new visiting vicar. As I sat in the 13th century church, I wondered how many times and different people had sat where I was sitting for the same service over the years.
Wouldn’t it be nice to just have a glimpse of those bygone days and to wander around the village and see the changes without actually being there in person. Kinda spiritual presence…
Sorry, I digress…
I sort of guessed all your running would not be documented in some way Surfer…Show me a runner who doesn’t keep an account of their excursions, it gets too emotional at times not to…
Enjoy your Christmas Surfer, and those tasty cinnamon rolls…Yum!
