Good Morning Tuesday, 20th May 2025

If that was true it is not working, just missed a Wedgetail Eagle feasting off a dead kangaroo, in fact I saw about 40 kangaroos today, only one was alive, oh… and two Emus both looking well in a paddock.

Kangaroos feed at dawn and dusk that’s when they get hit by vehicles, during the day they stick to the shade you rarely see them near the road in daylight.

What you do see is a lot of birds feeding off their remains, from crows to eagles. The latter are the ones I worry about they are very heavy after eating and slow to get airborne often to just about windscreen height as you approach, the idea of filling your car with the bloody remains of a large eagle does not appeal.

we don’t have dead animals and eagles on the M62

Good morning all! :sun_with_face:

A lovely sunny one this morning in West Sussex. No mega plans for today. I’ll be going for a walk around the local mill pond with Chilli jnr, I might even wear my shorts! :open_mouth:

We’ll be checking out our favourite blackberry patch, far too early for the fruit of course but we like to see how prolifically the bushes are flowering. If we don’t start getting some rain the berries are likely to be small, tough and not very succulent.

Anyway, it’s high time we assembled and tested our new walking sticks. I’m quite pleased with the cork handles :+1:

Have a good day forum people! :slightly_smiling_face:

I miss blackberries, they are a noxious weed in NSW so you have to be wary of eating them in case they are poisoned

Good morning everyone, cloudy again today, after yesterday’s sunshine. I new it was too good to be true. My son and I are planning to visit my daughter at the weekend, in Verona, but guess what? A train strike!!! :rage: We already have the tickets, what rotten luck. I haven’t been on a train journey for years as we always travelled everywhere by car with my husband. Just as I had finally decided to take a train trip, “Murphy’s law” pays me a visit! :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I’m considering whether to change the travel dates or just risk it, apparently our long-distance to Bologna is guaranteed but the regional train from there on is not!!! That would mean getting a coach, which I really don’t like much, I’ll have to think about it.

Anyway, after my moan, have a good day forumers.

I’m sorry to read of the bad news regarding the train journey Rose, it must be very disappointing :slightly_frowning_face:
No consolation I’m sure but the standard of service on the trains here is pretty grim all things considered. I’m just a stones throw from Gatwick Airport and use that particular station on a regular basis. I sometimes dread to think what visitors to our country make of the situation!

Good Morning Everyone…From Foxy’s world… :sunny:
Quite a pleasant morning with cloud giving way to bright sunshine and clear skies.
I’m still wearing gloves though on my early morning walks, circulation is rubbish!
Stuck a few fast sprints in and caught an old bloke up who was jogging along the towpath. We walked and talked for a while and then he ran off…I decided to let him go…Hadn’t got my breath back yet…
:stuck_out_tongue:
The reason why there are no dead animals on the M62 @macywack is because you very rarely see any traffic moving on there…I used to hate getting jobs that involved driving on it when I was a courier… :009:
I’m enjoying hearing about your travels @Bruce and I would love to have driven those roads, they look very inviting to me.
Thanks for the warning @SheilaP I’ll watch out for that email. There seems to be a very bad element of people using the technology to steal our money, at least they had to knock you over the head in the old days and then try and out run a marathon runner… :009:

Oh Gatwick airport sure brings back memories of my younger days! When I lived in London, I used to come to Italy on holiday every Summer, Gatwick was always our departure airport and we used to arrive there with the Gatwick Express from Victoria Station. I remember that one being very efficient and very frequent. Apart from that, I didn’t travel much with British Rail but I remember the endless negative comments from my colleagues at work who commuted every day into London, I didn’t envy them, it was bad enough for me, with the Tube!

The Gatwick Express still is the more efficient option but more expensive. Worthwhile when you’re off on holiday of course :parasol_on_ground: :slightly_smiling_face:
And yes, I spent many hours travelling on The London Underground, witnessing some very interesting scenes at times :open_mouth:

Well, we checked out our blackberry patch as I said we’d do in an earlier post. The flowers are just in bud. We seriously do need some rain at the moment, the ground is already becoming parched in places.

Talking of being parched I found it a bit too hot for comfort myself :sun_with_face:

Problem solved! :+1:

Hi Folks

Not at my best, but getting there.

After weeks of no rain-- we are having a massive thunderstorm, lights on inside, thunder and fork lightening outside and some big hailstones clattering down for 15 to 20 minutes and seriously heavy rain.

Quite an adventure.

I do recall when I was last in the UK that driving on motorways was a strange business. The traffic would come to a complete halt for no apparent reason, I expected an accident or road works up ahead but there was nothing.

Another annoying feature is that apparently you are not allowed to overtake on the left on multilane highways - both my brother and my mother told me off for doing that (before I started to remember) - it seemed stupid to me to have to go over three lanes just to overtake someone in the middle lane but I guess them’s the rules.

My biggest mistake was misreading the speedo because it is cluttered with MPH and KPH and I read the wrong one then I kept turning on the windscreen wipers instead of indicating because the instrument stalks are designed for left hand drive cars - I just could not get used to that, I presume it is some EU standard.

As you can guess it took me a while to re-adjust to UK driving.

At the end of the Millennium drought there were kids about to start high school who had never seen rain.

When traffic is moving in lanes, it is OK to pass on the left hand side, that is not undertaking, according to the Highway Code.

:sunglasses: that’s amazing and awful at the same time .

That is correct otherwise there would be traffic chaos in cities, then why doesn’t that rule also apply on British motorways?

I think the rule applies to all road types.

after what you said I wondered if they had changed the rule for motorways so I looked it up in the UK Highway Code, think it is an absurd rule but there you go:
