Good morning everyone on a winter Tuesday. Warmer outside in the garden than in my house - roof insulation has its downside.
Finished fitting the new locks on the back door, ran into a bit of a problem with one of the mechanisms interfering with the locking but a spacer solved that problem. Not sure why it happened but will investigate more fully later, at the moment it works fine but it took a while to solve.
Once I have finished this post and had a coffee will start on the front door, it should be easier and quicker because (in theory) I know what I am doing.
Still haven’t made my trip to the dump probably good because I now have even more old electronic stuff for the recycling depot and another trip to Bunnings is in the offing.
Not much is happening for me today other than working on the door locks.
A local community centre has a breakfast & lunch club on Tuesday, where I am a volunteer cook, so I’ll be going there soon
Then return via a supermarket in the afternoon as I’ve let my own food stocks run a bit low
It’s going to be another hot and sunny day. I will soon make a trip to the hospital to pick up my pills. They can’t be collected from a Chemist’s for some reason. Some friends are visiting this afternoon and I expect that will lead to a walk and an ice cream at the Canal Centre cafe.
The builders are busy filling the building base up with concrete. They came early while the day is cooler. This is the state of things before the concrete goes in. It looks quite tidy after a good clear up yesterday…
Morning all – another sunny start to the day – temperatures forecast to reach 25c
The beast again left one small deposit (I think she is merely demonstrating her dominance!). She allowed me to pet her for a while but when I opened the door to let her out she ran away from me. I will have to pop back in later to see if she has changed her mind
Watered the neighbours garden again last night – have to say the strawberries are looking very good!
By the time I got back from the shop yesterday it was too hot to do the ironing, so that is the plan for this morning.
We are getting close to our cruise and still a million things to do before we go. In between that we have my father-in-law’s health issues to deal with which is taking time away from doing chores. Mrs G is off to see occupational health nurse and sort out test results for him and deal with hospitals and prescriptions. It’s a never ending saga all mixed in with contentious “family politics” we could do without.
In the meantime, its a quick coffee and outside and cut the back garden and clean up our drive otherwise my grass will be ten feet tall when we get back, more so if we have rain in the meantime. If I have time, I may just wander up and feed the swans and cygnets which is just up our road.
I also wanted to order a new lens for our trip and my stockist has been out of them for ages. I looked last night and they have just got one in - problem is they may be able to get one to me before we go, so I will just have to put up with my old one.
Good Morning Everyone…what a great morning for taking off your socks and shoes and running around the lawn to ‘get earthed’
Didn’t see my friend this morning as I did a slow pass by his house…
It was a bit too warm for jogging so I just walked around the 3.5 mile route. If he catches me up then so be it…
John the roofer finished the job on the summer house by mid day and it looks great but Mrs Fox wants him to do the soffit’s too…As long as she’s paying for it cos I’m skint until pension day.
Mrs Fox’s philosophy is…If it doesn’t move, either paint it or cover it with plastic…
I’m off to B&Q shortly to look for some new lighting to recess into the soffits, the old recess lighting looks like it was intended for internal use only and is turning to rusty dust…
The bulbs are halogen, get very hot, and cost a lot to run so I’ll replace them with some LED’s.
Good afternoon everyone, another very hot day, maximum temperature about 37C, expecting a Summer storm this afternoon, hope it’s not too violent! I went early into town before the heat, to take my car for its ‘vehicle inspection’ (similar to your MOT), it’s every two years here. Then a trip to the supermarket with my mum. On Saturday morning I have my eye test for my car licence renewal, I was quite disappointed to learn that since I’m over 50 now, it will only last five years, instead of ten, before needing to renew it again!
I’ll be settling down soon to watch some British 'oldies"on streaming, as discussed on another thread.
Chilli jnr has now well and truly broken up from college.
I helped him bring back his portfolio, artwork etc this morning. It’s going to be a looooong break until he moves on to level three in September. We need to sort out some positive ideas to fill the time.
Nothing as such planned for the rest of the day, nothing much to report!
Enjoy those “British oldies” Rose. Hope you’ve got plenty of delicious snacks to sustain you
First was a fish, a conch, two cleaner shrimp and a coral for the Marine Tank.
Normally packed with heat packs, today with an ice pack.
Nearly 3 hours to acclimatise them to the aquarium temperature and water parameters.
They are now in their new home and are feeding.
The second delivery was some expensive, frozen, fish and coral food.
Delivery was Royal Mail 24hr Tracked.
Packet looked as though it had been run over and was defrosted.
Such is life.
Marine fish, invertebrates and corals are very finicky about temperature etc and the higher the water temperature the less oxygen in the water, so I have put an oxygen generator in the tank.
The kids are pouring out of the primary and junior school and going past my house, together with chattering mums and excited dogs on their leads.
Term time is never boring chez moi in term time, especially when so many of the littlies have now got electric scooters.
Watching workmen at work. Can somone explain to me why one is working and others standing around watching. It could be doing road works or on a building site.
Quote “The second delivery was some expensive, frozen, fish and coral food.” unquote.
I can just see swimmy wrapping the frozen fish up in a blanket to keep warm before adding them to his Marine tank… Then the fish waving their fins to him in thanks
Afternoon good people. An early walk at 07.00 with the wee dog after it is too warm. Then we had groceries livered. And that’s it. I mostly sat in the afternoon under the umbrella with a cold beer.

Oh yes, plenty of snacks! I think it will do me good watching some British films in English, I realise I often make mistakes, like calling a drivers license - a car licence!
