Good Morning Thursday, 26th December 2024 - Boxing Day

Good morning to everybody.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and all enjoyed yourself immensely. I had a lovely Christmas Day, so much food and booze, couldn’t beat it!

Today was much quieter, my youngest son and GF set off for their new life, first to visit her relies in Queensland, then in the new year they make their way to Darwin and a totally new life for both of them. It was a sad farewell as none of us will see them for months as they settle in, she as a naval nurse, he as a drone pilot and settling into civilian life.

I drove back from Canberra to Wollongong with my camper, it was an easy drive on the Hume, slightly more traffic than usual but few trucks and everything moving smoothly UNTIL…

Mt Ousley and the F6/M1 which goes from Sydney down to the holiday coast, was virtually at a standstill (and will be hell for those going south down the coast for the rest of the day). People making the most of the school holidays until February. Fortunately I didn’t need to stay on the motorway so I went down the old Princes Hwy and was home in good time.

How was your Christmas? Did it all go to plan?

I just have to remember to put the bins out

Take care…

Morning all – misty start to the day with a top temperature forecast of 9c

I hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday, Santa was good to you all and you are recovering from the excess food and drink! :cake: :wine_glass:

Thanks for the bins reminder Bruce, must put mine out this evening, ready to be collected tomorrow

One of my brothers in law called in yesterday morning – he does have some health problems so it was good to see him looking well. He and his wife have their daughter and grandson living with them while her house is being renovated and I think he wanted to get away from the chaos of a small child running around opening lots of presents and leaving a trail of wrapping paper and discarded toys behind him! I have just realised, my house seems to be a place of refuge for my in-laws! Not that I mind, I love seeing them

Was surprised yesterday to see my neighbour letting himself into my house with the spare key they hold. :astonished: I had left my phone upstairs and apparently they had tried to ring and sent a text , inviting me for a glass or two of Prosecco– not getting a reply they became concerned and wanted to check I was OK – I really consider myself lucky to have such wonderful caring neighbours.

I tried setting up a new clock/radio/cd player yesterday – just about managed to set the clock but am having trouble setting the alarm so the radio switches on in the morning! The instruction booklet says to press certain buttons, but there are no such buttons on the b****y thing! :rage: Yes I am sure any one of you could set it up in 10 minutes but I am a technophobe – I will get there eventually, probably this time next year!

Take care – hope everyone enjoys the continuing Christmas celebrations

Good Morning and ‘Happy Boxing Day’ Everyone…
I hope everyone has survived, and started preparing for next year…
Fabulous meal yesterday at the Posh Hotel (The Earl of Doncaster)
Four delicious courses of lovliness…
Although I had to leave the Yorkshire Pudding the size of a flat cap…I’m not even sure that ‘Yorkshire Puddings’ have a place on a Christmas dinner…
The second course was tasty, some posh lemon flavoured Ice cream with a foreign name…Sorbet or something… :017:
Anyway, after the coffee and warm mince pies I waddled out and headed for home…

The hotel is all Art Deco, this is the reception…

And this is a very stuffed Foxy…

Slept in until 8:00am and woke to a very foggy morning but feeling a bit guilty after not going out exercising yesterday despite eating my way through three days of normal food intake. So bike’s in the yard with lights fully charged, and it’s a ‘hurtle’ around the country roads of South Yorkshire…

Good morning from the after party of Florida!

Glad you made it home @Bruce. It sounds like your family adventure was a good one, though I know you are going to miss your son. Does this give you a new place to travel in a few months after they are well-settled?

@Sheila, you do indeed have good neighbors, but it’s a shame that you missed that Prosecco!

@OldGreyFox , what an interesting venue! I like places with an ambiance with a different time or place, and this restaurant apparently does just that! You are looking spiffy, as I am sure Mrs. OGF is. No sorbet here, but I did finish with a little Italian limoncello, that Rose will know well.

@Eliza, it is clear that your dog was a very, very good girl this year for Santa to have left her such a beloved gift. Santa always seem to know just the right thing to give. I’m happy to hear that you had such a good time with your son, his partner, and that cheesecake!

I love Christmas and can still seem to stir up a little of that Christmas magic (Santa still comes film stockings for my twenty somethings and the dogs, spoiling everyone with a ridiculous amount of food, and setting the scene with Vince Guaraldi (Peanuts), Christmas standards. After a giant cleanup, I sat down in this unfamiliar but comfortable thing called a “chair” some time around midnight enjoyed a little glass of aforementioned limoncello to quietly celebrate pulling off a nice Christmas. I expect that Santa is back home doing likewise .

Now that gravity seems to be taking hold, I am off for a looooooong, midday run with no rush, no mental list of things to do, and likely no one around.

I hope you all enjoy Boxing Day (a celebration that we don’t have here)!

I am hoping so, am trying to persuade the others (our family trips are fun) but if not I might just do it by myself. At a leisurely pace it is 10 days there and 10 days back, though easily done in a week each way. I like Darwin very much, have been there a few times the NT is a fantastic place.

My son wants me to fly there. Funny thing is I have only been on one domestic flight in my life and that was from Sydney to Canberra in 1967 (on a Fokker Friendship) for work.
