Good Morning Thursday, 23rd January 2025

Good morning to all you good people who venture here later. A much cooler day in the mid 20s today, as predicted the “Buster” part of the southerly change that went through yesterday arvo was a bit of a fizzer however the sudden 10° drop in temperature was welcome.

This morning was the first seniors’ meeting for the year but there was a reasonable turnout and of course once I have finished this post I will have to get stuck into writing the fantasy that is the meeting minutes :icon_wink: Everybody was pretty rusty but we got through it. BTW I was a bit dopier than usual too because after my running, jumping and standing still of the last few days I was forced to take one of my strong opioid painkillers

Talking of which… Finished and tested my outdoor lighting project and can report that it is much better than before, at least a windy day moving trees or flapping washing lines should no longer set it off (fingers crossed).

The switch looks nicer even though the section of random groove panelling is pretty antique but getting rid of the now redundant third switch makes it look much neater.

The sensor itself is compact and neat too above the garage door.

I can already hear the sighs of relief that you won’t be subject to more tedious photos about such a trivial project. Sorry.

Even better it’s bin day too!

Hope you have a great day, what are your plans for the day?

Take care

Morning all – oh what a surprise yet another dull, grey overcast day and in addition we are promised strong winds today with gale force winds overnight! I am beginning to understand why some animals hibernate for the winter

Met up with a friend yesterday, we haven’t seen each other since November, every time we would arrange to meet something would come up and one of us would have to cancel. Took us 3 ½ hours to catch up! One disappointment is that we ordered lunch, she had a rather nice sandwich whereas I had the worst jacket potato I have ever had – pointed out to the server that the potato was supposed to be hot enough to partial melt the cheese!

The usual Thursday meet up with the “girls” today, followed by some grocery shopping.

Take care – have a great day everyone

Good morning from the frozen South!

The post-mortem on the snow storm was that it shattered all records and we are on day three of having almost everything shut down. A few essential business are opening between noon and three, with the warming sun melting the road ice enough to drive to and from work. I am about to lose my marbles not being able to run, but this too shall pass.

@Bruce, I like that switch; it’s a style I haven’t seen before. I admire your - and Beosoeker’s expertise in the engineering field (ha, pun). I can wire an outlet and ceiling fan - and know enough not to stop my heart fooling around with live wires, so I am in awe of those who seem to have a knack for things electrical and mechanical.

@Sheila, it’s a shame to hear about your spud, but I am sure it was worth the disappointment to catch up with a friend.

The pelicans, herons, and egrets are having a heyday easily catching fish that are stunned by the cold, but the other birds seem to be at a loss. I guess I will go put out a little seed, which I usually avoid because it attracts raccoons, possums, voles, mice and following snakes.

Other than that, I am starting to research the perils and joys of building a new house. We are starting to marinate the idea that we will one day lose the mobility to live in this house easily - and I am realistic to know it is probably better to start taking care of that sooner than later, while I still have a few functioning neurons.

Alrighty, I am off. Have a great day!

That is the nice thing about the good morning thread, it’s a great place to air things that can’t support a thread of their own as well as just saying good morning.

Don’t do much electrical stuff any more so have to really think about it and double check every thing. The last was changing the garage fluorescent tubes to LED ones.

I like the modern style of switch mount with a cover which you can flip off to paint the wall. They are modular and I use the same style with up to four “holes” for my LAN and TV outlets. Used to be for the landline too but that has long gone.
