Good morning one and all, another warm, humid day.
This morning I had a seniors’ meeting so have been busy writing minutes. It belted down with rain during the proceedings but by the end of the meeting the sun was out so it is now a pleasant enough day.
This arvo will toddle down to Supercheap Auto to get some oil for my car, I hope to go away for a few days next week and it needs changing.
I still have the excitement of bin day for the morning to look forward to
Morning all – another cold, grey, overcast day - will winter ever end?
Had a bit of a worry yesterday, arrived home after lunch with sisters in law to find I had missed a call from my brother. I immediately tried to ring him but got no reply so texted him again no reply, then I realised it would be around 1.00 am in Australia and he was probably asleep! He rang me yesterday evening to say Mum had been taken into hospital, apparently her haemoglobin was low and she needed a blood transfusion. Heard from him again this morning – Mum has had 4 lots of blood and is now back to her normal self (thank God!), although that does include being rude to the nurses for which my brother was continually apologising!
It was lovely to see the sisters in law yesterday, although the food wasn’t that good – will avoid that restaurant in future! The nasal spray the pharmacist gave me appears to be working, although still slightly deaf in one ear
Today it the weekly meet up with the usual bunch of miscreants for coffee, cake and gossip followed by grocery shopping – yes I know I lead such an exciting life!!
grey but not too cold a day , Had a walk down by the River last evening ,Im amazed at the amount of drift wood that is now laying on the flood plain , Among the plastic bottles was a canister with a perfect roll of film in …
There was talk of getting it developed to see what was on it , I was not in agreement with that , there may be something on it we dont want to see.
Good morning from Robert’s Residence…
Nice morning for a walk but still a bit nippy at 3 degrees C but no medical emergencies this morning, in fact I felt quite chipper.
Had to cancel my contract with Quickline (the fibre Guys) it seems like I might not be getting the service free until my BT contract comes to an end in November 2026 so there’s no point in paying for two broadband providers, fibre or not…
Live dangerously and get the film developed Eliza, we don’t get much excitement these days.
As for all the driftwood, see what happens on our local river when it floods…
It’s a bad day for hair and a worse one for driving, but I am a happy camper to have a break from inching my way around the baseboards. I did the math and there are 23,344 miles of to scrub and/or paint. You might think that sounds off, but it includes the Surfermom Constant of it feeling like there is a lot more to do than there actually is .
I had a long chat with a student who is in culinary school here at the university and she was waiting for her ceramics class to start. How interesting to learn how to custom make the serving dishes for the food one prepares! Anyhow, she’s quite a remarkable girl; the daughter of a drug addict who had five or six kids with as many fathers, and she never met her bio dad - and incredibly, two of her half siblings. Raised in the foster care system, she has an unofficial adopted family who is supporting her through school, and despite some truly horrible early-childhood experiences, she is resilient, spunky, and happy. How I admire and love people like her! Now that’s the kind of person I want my tax dollars spent on, but I digress.
The news of the river flotsam is really disappointing, but I can’t say we are completely immune to that either. We have jillions of events to clean up waste in the rivers, including one I participate in annually and three surrounding communities have hired people whose job is to drive around in carts and collect it off the beaches, trails, riverbanks and roadways, but it is a constant battle. Why in the world are we still allowing single-use bottles? Future generations will judge us harshly for their acceptance.
This post is all over the place, and since the big brains of Gen Z are ready for some tutelage, I am off.
It rather looks like it , zooming in , there seems to be a face …
@OldGreyFox …I didnt see that much driftwood or rubbish where I walked …There was a nice tree root , and it would have looked nice in my garden , the start of a Stumprey. But couldn’t persuade my companion to get it in the car .
@Surfermom the young lady you talked about , will go far , she’s not letting her start in life hold her back , good for her …
It wouldn’t surprise me QES we get allsorts floating down the river from Sheffield, but on this occasion I don’t think it was some dead geezer, I would have noticed at the time when I was going through his pockets…
Britain telecoms is really in the stone age still, most if not all providers here are month to month from day one though they do try to suck you in with the first six months at a cheaper rate
I’ll probably go with Quickline when my contract with BT ends, but for the time being BT are providing me with a good service albeit eye wateringly expensive. We still use our landline quite a bit but they will soon be discontinued in favour of VOIP so no point in keeping the phone and we’ll start using the mobiles in it’s place.
VOIP is absolutely fine in fact far better quality than the copper service, I get it free with my internet and I used to have a phone connected but when I realised
a) that I never used it - only used my mobile.
b) incoming calls were only scams or charity requests
