Good morning to you all on this cooler overcast Sunday. Only 25° today, might even rain (which would be nice)
Went for my walk as usual this morning. I really have to get some better shoes, the problem is that ones with velcro straps are few and far between.
Apart from that have just been sorting out things in the garage, looking for a piece of wood to make a handle for my chainsaw file(s), all my other file handles are for much bigger bastard type files.
Am having a no food day today, living off coffee and tea. Am trying to forget that there is ice cream in the freezer
As with any hobby you can go on & on , but I make my knives at a fairly simple level; plain though hopefully well finished
Certainly if you Search YouTube you can see some very impressive examples
Also, as with any hobby you do it for the interest & satisfaction, not for the money
It’s only fairly recently that I’ve considered my work to be good enough to offer other people, either as gifts or for sale
At first I just made knives for friends & family, but as I go to craft groups, stick making & wood carving clubs, and so I have sold a few by word of mouth, and have even had requests to make them - commissions no less!
Unfortunately there is such a fuss & paranoia about knives & knife crime in the UK at the moment that I keep everything low key, and just use word of mouth to find responsible customers
Also I have other hobbies & interests, and spring is almost here and I’d like to get out & about more, so I don’t make them regularly now
Good morning dry here but cloudy so anything could happen rain at any time. was intersting night here last night as just around the corner from me was a car with a viable device in it turned out to be a jand grenade was made safe was surprised no one in houses was evacuated. here is the robot making the device safe.
Morning all – another sunny start to the day – perhaps winter has finally ended!
No food day Bruce? Say it ain’t so! I have had my usual Sunday morning full English breakfast!
Don’t know whether that would be exciting or frightening Feey!
Another motor related story! Glanced out of my window yesterday and saw an AA van parked across the road with the bonnet up. The driver kept doing something to the engine, getting something from the van and then back to the engine. Looked out again around 30 minutes later and he was still there, this time on his phone. By this time I admit to being curious, a red car showed up and the new driver joined the first looking into the engine, went back to his car, returned with something, did something to the engine and both grinned. The red car left and the AA van driver got back into his van and drove off. Doesn’t give me much confidence if an AA mechanic has to ring for help!!
Sunday being a day of rest I have nothing planned so will just take the day as it comes
Good Morning everyone…Had a couple of horrendous nights with the painful knee so on Friday I bit the bullet and went to see my GP. My daughter had to drive me the five miles to the surgery as it’s my clutch foot…
Came out with some Colchicine and Antibiotics, nothing much changed yesterday, plenty of pain and suffering, but I am feeling better today. My knee is still totally swollen and seized but not as inflamed and painful. So being as I’m able to think about something else other than the pain I thought I’d better check in…
I’m just now back from a spectacular run (the sky non my running ). I had to load up on the layers but it was well worth it. This upcoming week is midterms for my daughter, so I am helping her knock out some studying and editing some of her papers. It feels good to have a day at home.
@Feey, that is incredible about that grenade. Have they determined whether it was live or not? That’s way too close to home.
@OGF, you are hitting the 48 hour mark, so I hope those antibiotics will kick into gear. What are you doing to pass the days while you heal? I know you aren’t one to sit tight for too long.
So much for staying home; the refinisher just called and he wants me to run by to pick out a stain for the chest on chest. Then I’m home for the day…I think I am…maybe .
Actually I have watched some of those Youtube videos, they are quite interesting.
I didn’t mean to imply that your hobby was done for money. I was just curious what you did with the knives after you made them. It is like my brother’s hobby of wood turning - there are only so many bowls a house can use.
I never have a cooked breakfast at any time, nothing wrong with it but not for me, I usually have cereal.
When I am travelling in Asia and a cooked breakfast is included I still only have cereal. Fortunately a full English breakfast is common here as an “All Day Breakfast” in cafes and food courts so I sometimes have one for lunch when I am out.
One day a week without any food is not really a hardship. I have found that no food at all is much easier than reducing intake. As soon as you eat something then you feel hungry whereas not eating anything at all makes it easier. I just drink a lot of tea and coffee.
I agree, constant pain is awful, you have to do anything to take your mind off it, the forum is a good place.
