Good Morning Saturday, 5th April 2025

Good morning happy people on a warm, sunny Saturday.

I went for my walk this morning and was looking for more painted traffic control boxes but, bugger me, they didn’t even have graffiti on them.

Went shopping on the way home for fruit and other odds and ends. Then home for a few jobs I wanted to get done. My daughter is visiting tomorrow so nothing will happen then.

I planted out a couple of neglected plants, one was an Aloe Vera, the other one I was given but no idea its name. I hope it will do better in the ground, both had dried out in their pots, I just hope they recover.

Climbed my ladder to inspect one of my gutters for leaves (it was empty), then pulled out some overgrown weeds hiding in plain sight. (I am not much of a gardener, in case you hadn’t guessed)

Might sit out in the garden this arvo and read my book, all that digging wore me out :icon_wink:

Daylight saving ends tonight, thank god!

Enjoy your weekend.

Take care

Good morning - Another bright and sunny one. I didn’t do the bike ride as I thought I would yesterday, so perhaps today instead. Some friends called round and time was spent with them instead. It was good to see them. We go back to around 55 years. We walked to the Canal Cafe, sat outside and had ice creams. Then a walk along the towpath and back through the woods. A pleasant afternoon.

He and I were fresh-faced young TV engineers working for Radio Rentals. He was cleverer than me and he brought me along in the early days of colour TVs. In the end, we both worked as bench engineers fixing the TVs (and later, video recorders) that couldn’t be fixed in customers’ houses. Happy days.

Have a good day

Edit: I just rode my e-bike for half a mile. Well, it’s a start. I haven’t ridden it for a year.

Good morning!
Dull & cool first thing, but is turning out to be another fine sunny day

I’m going to Trawden, Lancashire this morning, where their new Men’s Shed is having its opening day

I’ll just see what happens later

Good morning everyone on this cloudy Saturday morning. The clouds are a surprise after the run of sunny days that we have been having but I have hopes that the sun will burn them off as the day progresses, in fact it is beginning to peek through the clouds already.

I am hoping to get out into the garden later. Yesterday evening a man came round to measure up what will become my new veggie patch because I want a path through the middle of it so that I can get to whatever I grow without treading between other plants, if that makes sense. He will also mend the fence post that has become loose and sways in the wind. When I first saw it swaying I thought it was an optical illusion!

I enjoy reading what other members write about their day so thought I would join in, though I do lead a very quiet life compared to some of you on here.

Morning all – lovely sunny morning if a bit windy

Went along to the new group yesterday – they had a very interesting speaker who talked about the Women’s Land Army during WW2, the only problem was the chair was so uncomfortable that by the end of the talk my back was killing me so I left early, the walk home aggravated my knee and I was in pain for the rest of the day! That pain together with my insomnia meant that sleep was unknown to me last night! Not sure if the group is my thing but I will go along to the meeting next month before making up my mind.

The squirrels have managed to get into one of the bird feeders which is now on the ground and looks broken! I had it tied on with a plastic garden tie so how on earth they managed to take it down is beyond me!

My plans for today were to visit the pharmacy to pick up my medication, clean the shower and mop the hard floors – but due to my lack of sleep and the fact my back is still hurting (probably due to all the tossing and turning last night) that won’t be happening

Take care - have a lovely day

Welcome to @Daffy on here , I have interesting days and quiet days , I have a wobbly fence post too not sure what im doing about it yet .
It will be nice to see you veg garden when it starts producing .

Its a sunny day again ,but cool breeze . Yesterday I decided to go into town and spend my Birthday M@S gift card , I bought a pair of Chinos , cool enough for the hot sunny days .

Ive got a bit of tidying in the garden , and I’ve another sample stain for the new gate to try , and no doubt at some point there will be a dog walk in the fields lanes or Canal path .

Morning everyone, just off to drive my daughter to a Sheffield hospital for an MRI scan. She doesn’t like driving in Sheffield, but I love it…
Done the Tesco shopping already, came home and showered and had some breakfast. I’m not clear what we are doing about food… :017:
Good to see you posting on here @Daffy some days are just lazy days and we all need them…
:sunglasses:
Not sure about that plant @Bruce it’s going to need a lot of love…
@SheilaP take a cushion with you next time if that chair was uncomfortable, I sometimes take one with me, I don’t think they like it at the chippy…

Good morning all! :sun_with_face::sun_with_face:

I’m in a rather buoyant mood this morning, there’s a distinct possibility that I might offered a full time job in hospitality, a non corporate kind of operation where customers are actually appreciated :+1:

I’m not going to let my bananas get too manky…

Just about ripe enough for banana bread hence the vanilla extract :yum:
The festive Christmas nuts are hurtling towards their use by date, the only sensible thing to do is grind some of them up in the pestle and mortar and add them to the above.

Have a good day forum people :+1:

Hi

Good Morning All

A busy start to the day, trying to sort out the mess of yesterdays coral delivery.
All down to Royal Mail, not the sender.

My legs are improving, enough to make a coffee this morning.

I am going to try to make a mince curry later.

Have a good day alll.

Good afternoon everyone, nice and sunny here too, still struggling to warm up but we’ll get there eventually. My daughter’s just sent me photos of Bruges which she’s visiting at the moment during a weekend break in Belgium - I couldn’t believe it when I saw people walking around in t-shirts and shorts! :astonished:

Spent this morning buying myself some “fitness” wear for next week when I will be joining a “senior fitness” class, first time ever for me in a gym!
I used to hate P. E. at school, I’ve never been a sporty type but I think some excercise will be beneficial to my blood circulation and cardiovascular system.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Me too Rose,
I had a distinct loathing for my P.E teachers, all tracksuits and whistles, ironically when I’d like to have a go at football etc it’s too late!

Hey Mr Kelly!
I’ve forgotten my shorts

I went to Bruges on a school trip in the 1950s, all I can remember was old ladies in the street making lace.

Personally I wear T shirts and shorts all year round with the tasteful addition of a cardigan in winter. However I do have a feather puffer jacket for when I am far from the coast because while the day time temperatures might be nice, at night it plummets to freezing

You get mild winters @Bruce, we get to freezing point!
Unless you’re a famous marathon runner like @OldGreyFox , I don’t think many of us are brave enough to go out in shorts in the cold.

It’s actually typical of tourists from far Northern Europe, when visiting countries a little further South, especially if it’s a sunny day, they get into their t-shirts and shorts even though temperatures may only be 5/6C. Infact my daughter said that it was very cold in the shade, her warm, winter jacket was much appreciated

I didn’t know Bruges was famous for lace, they call it the North Europe Venice, because of all the canals. Looking at the photos it also reminds me of Amsterdam, with all those brightly colored buildings, one of the most prettiest capital cities I’ve ever visited.

My grumpy P. E. teacher gave me a D on my report! The only bad mark I’d ever had! I always got As and Bs for other subjects. I definitely wasn’t one of her favorites, she wasnt mine either .
She made me sit down for the whole lesson once because I had forgotten to bring an elastic band to tie my hair back! :astonished:
I was quite glad about that, actually.

You probably won’t believe this Rose :astonished: But I used to take notes off my Mam so I didn’t have to do the cross country. I hated running…
It wasn’t until I was 27 back in 1977 that I found a passion for long distance running.

We went on a school trip to Blankenberg in the early sixties, I was swimming in the sea and got stung by a Portuguese man-o-war…I was in extreme pain and had to stay in bed for three days…
Quote from Google:-
How painful is a Man o’war sting? These long, thin tendrils can extend 165 feet in length below the surface, although 30 feet is the average. They are covered in venom-filled nematocysts used to paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures. For humans, a man-of-war sting is excruciatingly painful but rarely deadly.15 Mar 2022

At the time it was the worst pain I had ever experienced.
We visited Blankenberg again in 2020 during a cruise, we went to book tickets for a train ride to Bruges and the machine ate my debit card, we trudged around the streets in the pouring rain to find the bank responsible. They could do nothing because they don’t actually own the ATM’s…I vowed never to return to that godforsaken place ever again… :009:

Yes, that’s a surprise @OldGreyFox, that you started running at 27. Late twenties, approaching 30s,must be a time for contemplating, wondering what we’ve always wanted to do! I left London at 26,to come and live in Italy and I’ve been here ever since!

Wow, your close encounter with that terrible creature sounds awful, I can’t imagine the pain! :astonished:
Your touristic trips aren’t very lucky are they, your card being eaten up, too?
