Good morning to you all from the nation’s capital (pop 300,000ish) where it is a bit chilly this morning (22°C) - had to get my cardigan out (nearly didn’t bring it)
I went shopping with my daughter this morning and was surprised how few people were in the supermarket, we filled a trolley with Christmas food I managed to sneak in some Violet Crumble but that was it. Followed this up with a visit to the butchers to pick up ribs and pork for the BBQ.
Not sure what I am going to do for the rest of the day as a visitor my domestic options are limited, though I did enjoy watching her use her new Cricut machine to make vinyl stickers for the race car (to indicate tow points and battery connections)
Nothing like the Cricut machine Silver Tabby described to us for making her lovely cards.
SiLs parents arrive today and my youngest son and GF arrive tomorrow as Christmas excitement looms closer.
I hope everybody is enjoying their run up to Christmas.
Morning all – grey and overcast this morning, although thankfully the strong winds have dropped.
WARNING Whinge Alert!! Well, shopping yesterday to avoid the crowds was a big mistake, seems everyone else had the same idea. Pulling into a parking space a large van attempted to cut me off – that ain’t happening sunshine - we sat there glaring at each other until he backed down (don’t mess with old ladies!). Then no trolleys to be found, had to wait until a very slow trolley boy arrived with half a dozen. Trying to get around the store was another problem, why do people take up the whole width of the aisle instead of standing to one side when trying to decide which item to buy? Finally finished my shopping only to forget where I had parked the car, spent several minutes wandering around until I found it. Arrived home and have sworn not to go near a shop until at least January 2nd! (whinge over!)
Cleaner is arriving late morning – think she will find things a bit difficult now I have put up the Christmas decorations.
Only plans for today are to do some laundry and a couple of (probably very long) phone call catch up with distant friends.
Good morning - Some last minute shopping to do this morning. Can’t go out and do that until our daughter gets back with our car. One of our sons has a birthday today, so we will be seeing him here later. He will come with his brother.
While they are here, I’ll get them to get shift the new washing machine a bit. It is just a little out of position, enough so that a cupboard door won’t open properly. The space is very tight. It’s the sort of thing I’d have done myself 6 months ago but I’d better not risk it now.
I did get out yesterday , dry when we started out turning to rain be fore the walk , and then for a brief time Snow .
Undeterred we walked in the rain , my company had the full waterproof regalia,I got home wet and Muddy… I quickly looked on Blacks and ordered a pair of waterproof over Trousers, they are winging their way to me this very day .If they arrive before Christmas Day ,it will be a bonus .
The winds and rain have subsided and we do have a peek at blue skies behind the clouds now and then ,
Good Morning Everyone…
Mrs Fox had disappeared by the time I left my bed, I noticed her best friends car across the street had also gone, I think I heard some mumblings yesterday about driving to another village that still has a proper greengrocer, butcher and other quaint little shops, my money is on the cozy little cafe’ that does exceptional bacon rolls…
I missed going out walking today, even though it was only 3 degrees C and an icy breeze.
I’ll get the bike out instead and ride round to the surgery and take Mrs Fox’s prescription that she kindly left me out…
Better get me skates on if I want to be home to wrap her present before she gets back…
Good evening everyone, looks like we’re all trying to get our last Christmas food shopping done. I managed to avoid the crowds, I went to the supermarket at 2.30pm,it was great, still a lot of people but just like a normal, ordinary day, so I won, .
I had my daughter with me so that made it all much easier, too.
No eggs left though, so my daughter will bring me back some when she goes on her daily, coffee morning meet-up with her friends, tomorrow morning.
I’ve taken my chicken out of the freezer to thaw all night, so tomorrow I can start preparing our traditional chicken broth with meatballs and special veggies, as a starter for our Christmas Day lunch. A lot of work needed for this recipe so we always start preparations the day before. Tomorrow evening I’ll be cooking our traditional fish dishes, in the South here, strictly fish on the 24th, no meat.
It seems I wholly missed the morning chat as I was caught up in early morning shopping. It was likewise crazy out there, but it was such a pleasure shopping at the commissary with military veterans, members, and families who are so polite.
Aside from driving around town to look at Christmas lights and Christmas Eve services, I am done with the chaos of people who are frantically on the roads. It is really nice to be home.
Like Rose, we are starting preparations tomorrow to get ahead of the three courses of fondue planned for Christmas Day. I may have literally bitten off more than I can chew for this Christmas feast, but I was in the mood to try something different. I’ve also decided to stay up late tomorrow night and make cinnamon rolls for Santa and the rest of the family. I love the wee house of Christmas Eve when everyone else is asleep and I can enjoy some sentimental music and movies. Long, long ago, and old boyfriend stayed up with me while I baked, and we chatted the night away. The boyfriend is long gone, but I keep that little tradition with just the dogs and me.
Off to make something light for dinner before driving around and looking at Christmas decorations in the nearby neighborhoods while Christmas music plays on the radio.
