Good Morning Friday, 9th January 2026

Good morning all. Yet another scorcher - supposed to get up into the high 30s, low 40s, not a cloud in the sky.

Went for my walk early, in fact I went on my 6km route which I haven’t done for ages, it used to take me just over an hour, today it took 90 minutes, am definitely slowing down in my dotage.

On the way home called into the supermarket to stock up with milk, bananas and cake.

Watered some of my plants when I returned, my hydrangea doesn’t like the heat and even though it is in the shade for most of the day by the time the sun sets it is looking very limp.

I was sitting down having a cup of tea when there was a loud bang outside, I went out to have a sticky beak, a car had run into some parked ones, I asked if everyone was OK, turns out they were so I went back inside.

The rest of the day will probably be a repeat of the last couple, staying indoors out of the heat.

Have a good one.

Take care…

Hi

Good Morning Bruce and all who follow.

Half past 5 in the morning here, it has stopped snowing and the Internet is working again.

We have missed the worse, but only just, 4 inches here, much more a few miles away.

I will be very surprised if Kinga can get here today for her 4 hour shift, she lives out towards the Welsh Border.

A rapid thaw with a lot of rain forecast for this afternoon, so flooding will be next.

Not the best of starts for 2026.

I hope you all have a safe and uneventful day.

morning all

A little disappointed there was no snow in my area , although a few miles away had enough to close an airport.

I shall go for a walk today, I missed yesterdays due to waiting in for food shop, which got delayed on the M1 ,a cattle truck had over turned .

Nothing else planned .

Morning all…

Wet and windy start to the day here, so I have decided to forego my usual walk today. Today is the big “gathering of the clans” all the various branches of the family coming together for a Afternoon Tea - and all the family politics that goes with it, a lot of which is unpleasant to deal with. Fortunately, none of this involves my family, just the extended parts of the wife’s. I’m just there to take pictures, apparently.

Whatever, have a great day…

Good morning all. The slow thaw continues up here with some sleety showers. According to forecasts next week temperatures will rise. I hope those in the south have not been too badly effected by Storm Goretti.
Have a good day all.

Hello Everyone… :slightly_smiling_face:
The storm missed us completely with just a bit of overnight rain. The temperature has risen to 3 degrees C and the canal has thawed out. Shorts weather now the cold weather has passed and I bumped into the two ladies walking their dogs…They thought I was mad to wear my shorts, but I wish I had a pound for everytime I’ve heard that. Anyway, I produced the fastest time this year, but only having done the course five times I’m sure there will be faster times in the future.

Managed to unpick the Christmas lights from the Holly Bush yesterday, but it was freezing cold and I thought my fingers were dropping off, so I abandoned any further work outside and retreated to the warm house where I fell asleep on the sofa (couch if you are from America)

I envy your hot weather @Bruce I don’t mind simmering in the high 30’s
I’ve got a plant that’s suffering the same as yours Bruce, but it’s due to the cold, I think it’s some kind of Orchid, Mrs Fox knows what it is.

Was the truck loaded @Eliza if it was, I hope the animals came out okay, although it must have been a trauma for them.

@OldGreyFox yes it was loaded , but no mention of the state of them in news reports, when my food delivery driver told me that was the first thing I said , what a distressing time for the animals .

Hi

Here in Shropshire we still have 66 areas with power cuts, totalling 7000 houses.

An awful lot of roads have not been gritted or cleared either, so not great.

Below freezing temp tomorrow with some more snow in parts.

That’s not good, Swimmy !! So far we have not had any power cuts here in in our area of South Yorkshire.
