Good Morning Friday 6th September 2024

Another warm, sunny good morning from me, according to BOM today’s temps are up to 10° above average for September.

So far this morning all has been good, I actually found something I was looking for, on the downside I found it while looking for something else which I haven’t found.

Remembered to get my bin in early before the dog walkers had deposited their shit bags in it.

I thought I was being scammed earlier with a $1700+ sum on my credit card, fortunately I remembered just before I took drastic action that it was my annual council rates, due end of last month but I postponed paying until the new statement period to maximise the 55 days credit period. Well ya gotta, haven’t you?

Apart from that don’t have that much planned for today, might spend a bit of time on my car or in the garage, a little longer setting up my new old computer and will definitely go for my walk.

Noticed yesterday that the Bottlebrush everywhere I walked had leapt into flower, they are lovely, I wish they lasted longer.

Have a lovely day, have you got more exciting things planned?

Good morning all, that’s a lovely photo @Bruce, we used to have a little bottle-brush tree but sadly, it didn’t survive a very cold icy winter a few years ago. I should have covered it with the protective covers we usually use for many plants during the winter, I forgot! :slightly_frowning_face:

Driving into town for shopping with my mum this morning, my dad doesn’t drive anymore, he’s 90, and my mum has trouble walking too far because of her knee joints.

Have a good Friday everyone.

Morning all – more heavy rain forecast for today so don’t think I will be taking the planned trip into the city centre

Yesterday the heavens opened and we had torrential rain for hours. Went to the keep fit class but was only able to do 30 minutes before the knee gave out so I sat and watched the rest of the class making fools of themselves (we all look foolish but have a good laugh about it). Returned home and “rested” for the afternoon (OK I was lazy and stretched out on the sofa reading my book!)

Went out for dinner with neighbours last night. We usually walk to the restaurant/pub but because of the rain they took the car, which did save my knee! (oh the joys of getting older) Once again they wouldn’t allow me to pay my share. I always enjoy my time with them but it does make me uncomfortable when they insist on paying. They are off to Spain on Monday for 5 weeks so I will be back on cat servant duty

As the trip into the city seems to be cancelled not sure how I will fill my day – probably a little housework, doing some laundry and back to reading my book

Take care – have a lovely and hopefully dry day

Good morning - A couple of breaks in the cloud now but it has been pouring down and looking like late evening. Not a day for going far. So glad we got the drainage sorted out when we moved in here.

Have a good day.

A tad overcast with rumbles of thunder in the distance but still quite mild. Not much on today as far as I know, but ‘er indoors could change all that. Have a good day all.

Good morning!

A bit dull & cool first thing, about 06-00 to 07-00, but it brightened up to become sunny & warm

Decided to go to LIDL this morning to see if they had a cheapo veg box, which they did
I wanted to go not first thing, but late enough to give then time to make up the boxes, but not so late that they’d all sold out; so that would be about 08-30

I had forgotten, or hadn’t realised that the schools have gone back now, and I had also forgotten that I pass 2 schools on the way, plus the usual early morning/rush hour traffic
So the roads were busy & hectic, but I survived

LIDL’s veg boxes are good value - a random selection, but enough to make a few meals at £1-50 a box
Yes, it’s all short life, but not absolutely old & rotten, and by picking, peeling, & soaking in cold water I can use most things
This time I had lettuce, onions, tomatoes, courgettes, beetroot, potatoes parsnips, oranges, carrots
As I live on my own that will give me stews & salads for several days, with a few additions

OK, domestic stuff over
I have a few bits of paperwork to do, but it’s such a nice day I might just go for a walk instead – which in turn means I might end up in a pub

Just been watching a video someone has put up showing the Jeremy Clarkson farm shop. Well here for one is a person who would not go there when a burger cost £15 and a glass pint empty cost £10

Sorry to hear about the rain down South, it was glorious here at 6:30am so I decided to do my longish walk of 5 miles. It was really peaceful coming back through the countryside down the lane. All the corn etc has been harvested and just big bales of hay left in the fields ready for collection. Mrs Fox calls them dougle’s because they are big and round covered in black plastic?..(I know)… :009:
You must have got the high bits of our average weather Bruce, because for the last couple of nights it’s been freezing here and I had to put the heating on last night to warm up the bedroom…It was like a crypt when I went to bed on Wednesday night.
Mr Hudson (our local weather bloke) reckons that if you put this years summer back into the 1960’s it would be a heatwave…What a load of tosh! I was a child of the sixties and we had a lot better and longer summers than we get now…He’s taking the urine!
The things they say to make us think that the climate is changing…I bet they couldn’t even measure temperature properly back then. No digital stuff. It might wash with the young spunks, but it doesn’t wash with us older folk…
Rant over…Off for a late shower now to cool off…

I have the same problem with my chilli plants, they always struggle in winter even though we never get anywhere near freezing. They might last a few winters then suddenly they die

In fact, we usually plant our chillis in Spring and they mature in August, they definitely wouldn’t make it through winter, even if it wasn’t freezing.

Ohhh!! Heating on already @OldGreyFox, sorry to hear that :open_mouth:
We’re still in short sleeves here, it’s about 32C at the moment - sorry, don’t mean to “rub it in”. We’ve started getting thunderstorms every now and then but it’s still very hot. My daughter sent me a photo this morning of her being extremely annoyed, needing to wear a long-sleeved top to go to work because it had rained all day yesterday, but she’s in a city up North, I’m in the South

Morning from dreary Florida!

Day two of no running, so I am falling apart aerobically as I type . The instability in the atmosphere and high temperatures that make this high hurricane season also leaves us with these occasional days that are a rainout. It’s also a sign that fall is coming to the gulf coast.

I’m recovering from chasing a toddler (my great nephew :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:) through a long dinner out with visiting family last night. I am happy I picked the venue - open air dining with a massive, deck, dock, and play area so a certain little someone could run me happily ragged while the rest of our large party could relax and tell stories over good fare and drinks. I had the good end of the stick rediscovering the world through the bright, curious eyes of someone who has barely stepped on the planet.

This is tutoring day, and the goal is to cover the two anaerobic and one anaerobic paths of ATP production and expenditure, an incredible energy machine that makes our combustion engines sad and simple by comparison. I just have to dust off the NADH + H+, Krebs cycle, and the ATP-PC cycle in that dark, mostly unused of my brain. Thank goodness for chai and bright kitchen lights.

Clarkson’s Farm is entertaining from from a safe distance, but I confess that I would rather have several boxes of assorted day-old produce than an expensive boutique burger! As an aside, I enjoy his farm show with its mix of entertainment, information, folly, and humor. I especially enjoy comparing the farming practices there compared the farming practices here. It definitely reminds us that small farms remain such mightily important and undervalued way of life. Good stuff.

With that I am off. Have a fine day!

Two words - Zip ties :icon_wink: Teaches children the meaning of restraint.

I stapled my daughter to the kitchen table once, she was so naughty. A valuable life lesson.

Oh he’s your neighbor
I loved watching Clarkson’s farm, all three seasons. I watched them in original English language, but I admit I had trouble understanding the local farmers at times, but so did Jeremy!

Oh no! he’s moved darn sarf now Rose, but he was born and brought up in Doncaster.
As soon as they become successful and come into some money they move away…Joanna Lumley is another Doncastarian…
I’m having a job getting noticed, but I guess I’ve left it too late now…

You’re so right @OldGreyFox, we have many stars originating from the South, but they’re all in Rome or Milan now. The grandparents of many US stars originated from our areas and further South - Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, many directors…
