I have a job updating the Seniors’ Club Life Membership board, So far it has been hand written with gold paint, the person who originally started it was not a sign writer but did a fair job until the last name.
I was going to have a go but then I remembered that my daughter had a cricut (sp?) machine so I am going to get her to do it with gold letters when she visits.
Had a quick trip to Bunnings this morning for some potting mix, even better discovered that they stock the best chilli seeds. The last time I planted these they lasted several winters until finally succumbing to the cold. They are HOT!
Good morning - The weather looks better than yesterday. Early morning brightness with a slight breeze blowing. The day’s jobs will be a trip to the pharmacy and a phone call or two to make. Also being a waiter service for Mrs m’s needs.
Not a lot going down here on the south coast. Dry and sunny after the recent storms.
Last night I was down by the seaside, parked up and hoping to catch a glimpse of Comet Lemmon, supposedly visible in the western night sky, and as always, plans thwarted by thick clouds covering everything, not helped by light pollution. It was supposed to be magnitude 3, but I seeing conflicting information as to what it really is. I even had my scope and my long range camera lenses ready…but had to give up.
Anyways, Mrs G wants to go outlet shopping today and that means coffee and muffins for me. Possibly a bacon sandwich thrown in.
spent this morning dealing with computer issues (see photography section) all to do with new editing suite.
very cold but sunny outside, oh how I hate cold weather, best indoors with a hot cup of coffee
do you actually know the difference between tea and coffee ? there is no “f” in tea,
I have returned from the three-hour commute to take my daughter to her mentoring sessions. I would normally stay, workout, or work, but her college within the university is sponsoring a Cornhole fundraising tournament that runs until eight this evening, so I decided to come home to take care of mundane domestic duties. It’s a beautiful day, so I’ll be running the sportsplex later, where the trails have been too muddy of late to trek.
I likewise missed the comet, but did catch a few of the Orionids last week . Those burning flecks off of Halley’s Comet should be around for a few more days if anyone has an itch to stare upward for a while.
Good afternoon everyone, well what can I say? Nature is having a go at us at the moment, what have we done wrong? OK, let’s not go into all that, not the appropriate thread, is it?
After yesterday’s extremely strong south/west winds and heavy rain, guess what we had in store for us today? A (thankfully) “minor” earthquake, the earth shook for a few seconds, enough to feel the tremor, 3.6 on Richter Scale! I was in the kitchen, doing the washing-up and suddenly everything just started shaking, I rushed outside into the yard, my son was there and he said he’d heard a rumbling noise. Then we found on internet that the epicenter was just 15km away from us.
I remember that another time a few years ago, I was outside in our front yard and heard this typical rumbling noise when there was another tremor. With this reasonably low magnitude you can even not experience it if you are outdoors, particularly if walking or moving about, but if you are indoors, yes! We are in fact in the high risk zone, so every now and then these minor quakes happen unfortunately, I think I’ve experienced this about 4/5 times in these thirty years that I’ve been living here.
I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but these quakes seem to happen during season change and when the weather is abnormally too warm, temperatures rising and plummeting at a crazy rate, which is exactly the weather now. The other day you could almost stay out in short sleeves, whereas last week we needed our coats.!
Anyway, scare is over for now, have a good weekend everyone.
Hello morning folks…I’m late again…
Mrs Fox wanted to go for breakfast at the big Tesco at the other side of town, so I got my walk done early and a quick catch up on the forum while I had my breakfast, then into the shower.
I normally shower straight after my walk, and I hate it when I go out of sequence…My day starts to fall apart and I forget to do stuff…Must be an age thing…
My daughter lives on that side of town so we met her and discussed her new job…Apparently she loves it…She’s a lolly pop lady and shepherds the kids across the road on their way to school…Working for the local council, she earns more than I did as skilled machinist…
Mind you, it was a few years ago now…
Must be very frightening during an earthquake Rose, you don’t really know how big it’s going to be until it stops. I’m glad to hear that there were no casualties, especially you…
We had a couple of mild ones around here, once when I was at work…All the lamps hanging from the roof started swinging and I felt the tremors through the floor.
The most recent one woke me up, not many people felt that one because it was early in the morning, but my daughter rang to say “Dad we had an earthquake last night and nobody believed me” She was over the moon when I told her that I believed her because it woke me up…
I asked Mrs Fox if the earth moved for her and she said it hasn’t since our honeymoon…
So unnecessary!
Wow, @Rose2, that must have been quite an experience! When I lived in Hawaii, shallow earthquakes could be caused by extensive rain or powerful storms while magma was fairly close to the surface, and those could lead to eruptions, but I don’t know about other weather. I’ve been in some powerful ones in California that broke dishes, cracked sheetrock, and caused waves in my parents’ pool. There are three kinds - one jolts, the other shakes, and the third are smooth, almost like being on a boat with waves traveling below. I wonder if the one you experienced was plate or magma related?
That’s how I ended up as a postman in London. Jobs as a technician offered £35 a week where ever I applied, I started as a Postman at £50 a week.
They certainly are frightening. I have been in three, one in Iran, one in Kabul and one in Sydney. The latter I slept through but in the second one, I have never got down a flight of stairs so quickly, was staying in a mud brick hotel and the mud was pinging off the walls. In actual fact none of them were very severe but I had never experienced it before.
That’s right Bruce, I was on better pay as a postman than a time served engineer, but it was a few year later and wages seem to have gone through the roof just lately. Even the minimum wage has risen to £12.21…per hour…That’s almost £500 a week…
My main concern during an earthquake would be to get out of, and get clear of anything higher than me…
