Foxy's Latest Project

Very interesting, OGF, and encouraging that you’ve got it to work well.
Headphones sound the better option.

I’d like to ask one question: how deep a metal object can it detect, say a water pipe? Presumably, a plastic water pipe would be less easy to detect.

Thanks JB, yes, the headphones are brilliant, especially if there is background noise or wind.
The cable I located to the summerhouse was about two feet deep under some paving slabs, but I’m wondering if the power in the cable assisted the locating…I’ll give it a try later with a fifty pence coin and report back JB… I seem to have a surplus of change since nobody wants to take cash anymore…:frowning:

Thanks, OGF.
If they’re of any use, I can let you have lots of 5p, 2p and 1p coins.

Thanks but no thanks JB, I’ve got loads myself and because they are now made of low quality metals we wouldn’t get the value if we weighed them in…:102:

How’s it going with the great treasure hunt, OGF?

I read the technical details and had to do so s l o w l y, as I have but a small understanding of electronics. Always eager to learn though, so thank you for the elaboration.

Aww… Thanks for looking in Sufermom, it’s good to see you…
Unfortunately lockdown has been getting in the way of treasure hunting, but there’s a rumour going around that by the end of this month I might be able to visit a beach somewhere and run the detector through it’s paces…

Are there any good beaches along the River Don then? My, how things have changed since I lived there.

Plenty of sandbanks where the Don runs into the Ouse…But:

It’s Just an hour by motor to the nearest one at Hornsea Fruitcake… I’ve done it on my bicycle in the past, but it took me a bit longer than an hour…:surprised:

It doesn’t have to look pretty Sly old grey fox. It just has to work! Seems like it’s working well! When are you going to try test it out for real? Your riches awaits! So excited!

Just watch it Foxy. I think she’s just after a piece of the action!

I actually think it does look quite neat.

I’m thinking the beach will be a good place to start Minx, and the lockdown restrictions will be lifted for travel on the 29th March. So it’s looking good for then… I might not be too successful until I’ve practiced for a while, but even a bottle top in the early days will be a result…

It’s a pity Minx didn’t live a bit closer JB because I ordered bits enough to build two, just in case I had an accident…But all went well first time…:surprised:

Thanks Besoeker, I might try and make the search coil a bit more water resistant so it will work on wet grass etc… But it won’t stop me going out with it next week…

Get her to come and join you anyway.

Two of you can cover twice the area!

WD40 might work. Water displacement is what it is called but I’m sure you know about that. It shouldn’t compromise the search coil insulation. Or a very thin silicone rubber tube…

Thanks Besoeker that sounds like a great idea, especially the silicone…:023:

That’s a thought JB, if I build another it will give Mrs Fox something to do as well…

I adore treasure of any kind

Just to be clear. When I said that it does not need to look pretty, I meant the rework you did to counter the thermal runaway
You know that I have a high regard for your workmanship. It’s top shelf!
And, your workshop is so neat and tidy! Extra points!
