Hi

This set me off on a voyage of discovery, so thanks you so much for your post.

My surname I always thought was pure English, I was so so wrong.

It is a French Surname brought to England in 1066 to reward the French Invaders with land.

That hurts. the French are not my favourite people.

My first name, once common, is now very rare.

Almost extinct here in the UK.

I had thought that I was not on Wiki at all, but sadly disappointed to find one reference to me.

This is in spite of being of being very careful and having been on TV and the Radio.

My kids, when young, used to think it was great fun seeing me on the Local TV and or Radio then imitating my accent. They have very different accents to me.

Mine is from Lancashire, then Yorkshire, a real local accent.

They where born in Suffolk and Shropshire, sounded very posh to me and Mum was always teaching them not to have my accent.

All good fun.

No, I think it is against OFC rules to identify yourself (at least I have a vague recollection that it is).

However I am enjoying the efforts so far though none even close.

Gawd, you reminded me - weren’t Wimpy Bars awful? Their idea was that a burger was a piece of meat alone in a bun, no wonder Maccas took off in Britain.

I have to be honest and say that I was surprised how well Maccas was received here because any corner deli or milk bar made a better hamburger but take off they did, unlike Starbucks and a host of other US fast food joints that came and went broke here.

Ooh. But surely you remember the banana split, as well as its cousin….the knickerbocker glory? God only know who came up with those names :man_shrugging:t2:

I have a vague recollection that Wimpy was a waiter/waitress service sort of place. Am I wrong?

Fortunately most of my memory of Wimpy Bars has been wiped, I really can’t remember.

My family name is 64,478 globally and 6,451 in the US. I have only meet two other people with the same last name, that I didn’t know. Believe it or not, one looked like the family.

There are streets, hospitals, building name with my family name.

One time i heard the family name once in a movie. The bar tender in a western. I think it was the red headed stranger.

I actually have fond memories of Wimpy Bars. We used to frequent the one in Marylebone High Street in London back in the 70’s. And yes, the food was brought to your table :+1:
