Jeepers mate, I have this album in the loft ( I think ) . I love this thread, it’s like being a kid in the sweet shop
I wanna kill, kill, kill
A good album and I remember seeing Purple in the early 70’s in Romford. Talk about LOUD!!! Bloody good though
I’ve had a word with my “external source” who says he can find quite a bit of material from Alex Chilton/Big Star, so this is something worth waiting for:cool:
Gasman - Pleased you’re enjoying all this mate. Many more curios to come I think, along with hopefully some more popular chart-based classics for the more “casual music listeners” of the forum
No.969: “Perfect Symmetry” by Keane (2008)
A modern guitar-free band from Sussex fronted by Tom Chaplin. The only act to have their first six albums debut at No.1 in the UK chart. Here’s the lead single from this very accomplished album:
No.968:" A Head Full Of Dreams" by Coldplay (2016)
http://jonalisblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/coldplayth.png
Just about the biggest band on the planet, Coldplay have a knack for releasing some great singles but personally I enjoy hearing their albums as one continuous listening experience. Dreamy, classy, exquisite.
No.967: “Tim Rose” by Tim Rose (1967)
Tim Rose was an American singer-songwriter who would never make it big like some of his contemporaries (Willie Nelson, Glen Campbell, Tim Buckley), but this release - and especially the wonderful 6-minute track ‘Long Time Man’ secures his place in musical history as an all-time great.
Put your feet up, close your eyes and listen to this marvellous song…
No.966: “Like An Arrow” by Blackberry Smoke (2016)
Like a modern cross between the Allman Brothers Band and The Eagles, Blackberry Smoke are taking the country-rock scene by storm with a relentless and very competent string of albums. A great live act.
I do like Chris Martin.
No.965: “Working Version” by Beck, Bogert & Appice (1974)
Working Version is the more superior unfinished album from this much-promised “supergroup” headed by Jeff Beck. There was an official album released but this is recognised as a far better document of this short-lived group. This is the song ‘Lady’ from it:
Hi Tiffany,
He’s one of those quiet wallflower types isn’t he, despite being in the multi-millionaire celebrity bracket and giving his kids daft names like ‘Apple’!
Makes great music though
Last one from me today…
No.964: “American Idiot” by Green Day (2004)
http://wwctfm.com/ctwp2013/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Green_Day_-_American_Idiot_cover.jpg
American social outcasts Green Day have been around since the mid-80s with their proto-anachist rock leanings. American idiot was probably their most successful release.
I can’t believe this album is almost 14 years ago!
Four more albums reaching No.960 in this list.
No.963: “Call Me” by All Green (1973)
A splendid soulful album from the Reverend Al Green.
No.962: “Blue Matter” by Savoy Brown (1969)
Late 60’s-Early 70’s UK blues outfit specialising in traditional blues and making it their own with a heavier twist. Later known as the Savoy Blues Band.
No.961: “Once I Was An Eagle” by Laura Marling (2013)
A beautiful concept album from a singer-songwriter who is highly regarded in non-chart circles.
No.960: “Split” by The Groundhogs” (1971)
Tony McPhee’s Scots blues band. Still going strong, I saw them a few years ago with John Mayall and Mick Taylor on the same bill. Some concert that was!
Please feel free to add your own videos when I don’t post any from albums such as these. But please keep things relevant to the albums noted in the list. Thanks
Enjoying this thread so far Floydy. I have to say that I am aware of most of your choices but have not bought their albums. There are few that I have not heard of too.
Hi Longdogs, and thanks for the comments
Yes there are quite a few, should we say “interesting examples” in here aside from the usual hits-packed classics. That shows that popular music is so diverse and vast.
Even though I do have quite an extensive knowledge on the subject there are still thousands of bands and albums I’m still in the dark about…and many I’d rather not have heard.
Keep enjoying it, Longdogs. I guarantee there’ll be many releases to come which you will know very well indeed.
Incidentally, who are your own favourite artists and albums?
Good afternoon. We shall continue with…
No.959: “Laser Love” by After The Fire (1979)
Slap bang in the middle of the new-wave/post-punk scene was this Christian rock band who were typical of the synth-driven sounds of the era. They were perhaps best known for their riff of their later “Der Kommissar” single being sampled many times for rap/hip hop records (Rick james’ ‘Super Freak’ and MC Hammer’s ‘U Can’t Touch This’ spring instantly to mind) but I prefer their debut album. They just scraped into the top 40 with this brilliant single:
No.958: “Give 'Em Enough Rope” by The Clash (1978)
Typically incendiary second album from the London political punks. Give 'Em Enough Rope featured the storming English Civil War and this absolute classic:
No.957: Earthling" by David Bowie (1997)
The first of 23 albums (no less) from the late chameleon, David Bowie. Earthling featured the pretty decent single ‘Little Wonder’, but this is my favourite track on the record:
No.956: “Relayer” by Yes (1974)
Just three songs make up this album from the kings of prog rock. Rick Wakeman vacated the band after getting bored and so Patrick-Moraz’s keyboards adorn Relayer and as usual with Jon Anderson’s angelic vocals towering over it all. Fancy 22 minutes of ‘The Gates Of Delirium’? You got it!
