What album? Chris Rea or Phil Collins?
Collins.
There are mate, but I’m trying to cater for some other tastes too. It would be nice if some of the ladies appeared in here. Surely they can’t all stop at Frank Sinatra?
My favourite track on the Collins album is actually ‘The West Side’, a very classy instrumental piece.
Hope you’re enjoying some of the thread anyway
Self indulgent, but what the heck.
Be interested to know where The Clash by The Clash figures…Also Live at The Roxy…Various.Live at the 100 club The Jam, Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers and of course…Never Mind The Bollox by U No Who !
Aa few albums that defined my mid teens !
Thanks for this mate.
Not self-indulgent at all. I’m encouraging this in this thread; it’s applicable to the album I mentioned and that’s good.
Lovely track from an underrated album.
Sweetie Pie - Nice to see you here too. What is your particular taste in music, have any of your favourites appeared here yet?
Great records Moscow. I can’t tell you exactly where any albums feature in my list, it’s classified information but I can tell you that all of your choices except the live Jam album are pretty high up.
Stay tuned!
I liked the Springsteen ,very reminiscent of Dylan I think.
Abba after their initial success weren’t going anyway much but the music programme Countdown here in Oz championed their cause and then they really took off worldwide. They are still very big here.(Not with me though)
Self indulgent by Collins that is. Btw.
Great thread, and an inspiration to seek out some of those classic albums on Google Play Music.
I await with baited breath…
I hope you will post the WHOLE list in a oner at the end so we can analyse in it’s entirety.
It’s funny how the albums from my teen years hold the best memories…I could have named many more
Catch a Fire by Bob Marley
Blank Generation by Richard Hell & The Voidoids
Funky Kingston and Roots Reggae by Toots and the Maytals
The Only Ones by The Only Ones
Signing On by UB40
The Specials by The Specials aka
Like everyone…I could go on but even though my youth was rooted in Punk and Reggae now it’s as varied as the music scene itself
I do like Springsteen’s more relaxed albums. Nebraska is a fave of mine, very understated. More of that later.
I seem to remember something about Abba making waves in Australia first. Just after Eurovision? Than the rest is history.
I’m not mad keen on a lot of their stuff, but some of their material is extremely well made. More from them later too.
Thank you Ffosse. I aim to please
You’re definitely on the ball with your question about wanting the full list in one go, Moscow.
I plan to post all of it after the No.1 album in two versions: In numerical order (from 1-1000, ascending rather than the descending 50-album segments we are getting atm), and an A-Z list too. There will also be a breakdown of how many albums feature from each year/decade as well. Got a while to wait though bud, but the way it’s going I should have it all wrapped up by late summer
Thanks for your interest.
The Specials and The Only Ones are in the list, as are another three from The Clash. Not a massive reggae fan myself, but their is one inclusion from Bob Marley.
Just letting you know, I’m still looking in Floydy.
Hi mate. That’s perfectly okay bud Not all of these albums will suit everybody’s taste. It’s just good to be having some feedback from members, rather than sit here like some mad Jack Torrance slogging it out on the keyboard.
I’m out on the razz this afternoon but hopefully I’ll be in a decent enough fit state to post a few more tonight
I think I have mentioned before that although I am really in to music, I tended to buy more singles than albums, plus I was always listening to the radio.
Enjoying the thread though and can’t wait for the top ten.
I believe you’re a similar age to me, Longdogs, around the early 50’s?
I was the same: I started buying singles around 1978 with my pocket money until I started work and was earning a wage when I was buying LP records each week (from 1981).
All the earlier releases I have purchased have been on vinyl (up to 1986), cassette, CD and various “other sources” since. Like yourself, the radio was my main listening point
The Top 10 is sometime away yet, although we’re not doing too badly getting through this so far.
