A novel that tells the story of a man who is severely burned in a car accident and is befriended by a lady who tells him she has known him for hundreds of years.
The man’s burns play a large part in the novel and as such here are just a few medical terms regarding the treatment of severe burns sprinkled throughout the novel.
Escharotomy - an emergency surgical procedure involving incising through areas of burnt skin to release the tightness as the skin grows on the periphery
Jejunostomy - Jejunal feeding is the method of feeding directly into the small bowel. The feeding tube is passed into the stomach, through the pylorus and into the small bowel.
Pulmonary Toilet - Techniques used to clear mucus and secretions from the airways.
Penectomy - A surgical procedure that removes part of or all of the penis
