Feeling gloomy!

@Carol - one of my friends is booked into Nidd Hall - another Warners place - and she says it states quite clearly on her payment invoice that if she has to cancel due to Covid or because she feels unsafe that her money will be refunded in full.

I have scoured my payment invoice & it says nothing like that on mine.

It’s possible that your friend purchased Warner’s ‘Holiday Protection Plan’ That’s why she has the option to cancel or postpone.

I didn’t think I’d need it so I didn’t purchase it. Wish I had now!!

I have been giving this a lot of thought.

I wanted to postpone it but they won’t allow it. If we don’t go, we lose all the money.
I can’t be bothered to fight them. I didn’t take out their holiday protection insurance so it’s my own fault.

Tony want’s to go.
With his progressing Alzheimer’s it could well be the last holiday we have together.

I have decided we’ll go but be very careful.

In the daytime we’ll explore local towns, garden centres & walk in the lovely grounds of Thorsby hall and Sherwood forest.

It’s the cabaret room in the evening that I’m worried will be most crowded. We will probably give the cabaret room a miss & go & sit in the quiet lounge listening to a piano player & sending us to sleep!

I wish we’d been put in lockdown but Boris decided to let us have Christmas

I want to thank everybody for their comment, advice & offers of help.

In the end it’s my decision

Their Terms are :

  1. The hotel you have booked is closed due to the coronavirus outbreak

  2. UK Government restrictions on travel due to the coronavirus outbreak

  3. You are unable to travel due to sickness and/or isolation due to the coronavirus outbreak

So unless Boris announces there is a travel ban or Carol has a positive test they are in their rights not to refund.

What ever you do get it in writing and keep a copy, there is no proof just if just told. so send a letter and mark it private and personal to the person Carol mentioned. No doubt be opened by his secretary first but at least it should reach him

Hi everybody.

We’re back from Thorsby Hall & it was much better than I expected.

Food & entertainment were very good & the thing I dreaded most - the crowding, didn’t happen.

Everybody was nicely spaced out & even in the cabaret room people were sensible & left at least one seat, or even two or three between them & other guests. I think a lot of the guests were afraid as I had been & didn’t go in the cabaret room at all. Others went in the other bars where there was more room.

We explored the local towns & walked round Thorsby Hall grounds. I went to the aqua fit in the pool & afterwards went in the Jacuzzi where I had a chat with a nice couple from Liverpool.

Tony was ok but did a lot of moaning that the bed was hard etc etc. However, they had the real ale he liked called ‘Doombar’ so it wasn’t all bad for him!

I did notice he was more disorientated than usual. He really does prefer being at home & I felt a bit guilty that I was enjoying it more than him. I decided not to make him go anywhere again - it’s not fair on him!

Anyway - glad I went - the break did me good

So pleased you enjoyed it, and at least Tony enjoyed the ale.

Glad you had a fun time. Thanks for updating on how it went.

@Carol Glad you had a lovely time

@carol - I am glad you had some fun and are safely home again.

My friend that went to Nidd Hall enjoyed herself so much she has already booked in for next Christmas!

can’t fault Tony it’s my favourite too, I drink it every night :+1: :+1: :+1:

Glad you had a good time Carol. You need a break now and again and psychological wellbeing is so important if you are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.
