False teeth and dental health

You are so beautiful Mollie.

Like you Molly up until recent years I had a very good set of teeth they are still not too bad for an 81yr old but they are slowly deteriorating with age. When I was younger I was often told by people what good teeth I had and were they my own. I used to reply " No, they are not mine, I borrowed these from my cousin, as he won’t need them for a while"!

So sorry not to have returned here before now, but I didn’t realise anyone had posted. Emily, you’re very kind, but I’m definitely not beautiful. Maybe a bit pretty many years ago, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’ve never thought of myself as you describe me though.

Hi Derek. We haven’t spoken before, and indeed, you have been lucky with your teeth at 81 years old. I don’t know if I’ve already said this in this thread, but people used to ask me if I had false teeth (which I thought was insulting at the time :-D) and once, when I went to A&E, the nurse tried to take out my teeth and was surprised when she realised they were my own, and I was in my late 40s then!

Anyway folks, on Monday 16th April I shall be going for my first treatment, which I understand will be mainly an X-Ray. I will also be having three top back teeth removed  and I still feel very upset about all of this, but it has to be done as I’m having difficulty eating properly now.

I know how supportive you all are on here, so I’ll let you know how I go on.

Hi Mollie
I’ve just caught up with this thread.

Go for it girl! And Good Luck!
You’re doing the right thing … but then you already know that you’re just getting your head around it, tis all.

I don’t have dentures (yet). But my partner had virtually a complete extraction of his teeth due to gum disease in his mid 50’s. He was very self conscious about how his new teeth would look to other people.
When he first came home he was reluctant to open his mouth incase I saw them.
But honestly, he looked so much better. The colour and texture was natural looking and I noticed his jawline and the shape of his face looked better too , how shall I say, less fallen in? I guess his old teeth, or the pain, or the way he had begun to unconsciously hold his mouth must have done that.
And the ultimate test. He asked for a kiss to see how they felt … to both of us. No problems there!
Not, I hasten to add that you’ll want to rush out and kiss anyone … but you never know.

ps. Might be useful. I found the nearerst Cosmetic Dental Lab to where we live just incase they ever needed fixing.
Don’t worry! It’s rare! But when they did, once, after 15 years, they were fixed in 10 minutes whilst he waited, as it cut out the middleman of the dentist appointment, and whilst there he had a second set made up from an impression.

Thank you my friend for the support. As you’ll have already read, this has not been an easy decision for me, but the only one I can make.

I’m committed to this now, and I will see it through, and the more positive knowledgeable comments I get is helping me through.

I haven’t had toothache since I was about 7 years old and I only started to see a dentist on a regular basis was when I was around 34 when I cranched down on a boiled sweet and it took part of a tooth away, and I had to have it built up again, but that was 28 years ago, so I’ve been lucky; but sadness now descends.

It’s one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever gone through in my life but, hopefully, a time will come again when I can openly laugh and smile with folk.

I’m so glad you finally made up your mind Mollie, you know you are doing the right thing and you’ll never have to worry about your lovely smile again:-), unless of course you run into Crustabel on a bad day.:-). Best of luck Mollie.

:lol::lol::lol:

Thanks Jem. I needed a quick kick up the 'arris. D-Day (Dentist Day) begins on Monday.

Thanks everyone again for your support, thoughts, advice, experiences, and everything else contributed to put me at ease.

good luck mollie with your dentist will call you sunday

Oh, alright, thanks lass. Will look forward to your call. About 7 p.m. my time would be great. Thanks, Ann. Much appreciated.

Mollie, how did you get on? Thought about you, because I’m going to the dentist tomorrow to replace a filling

:blush::blush::blush::blush:

I chickened out at the last minute, Carmen. :frowning: I was all geared up to go, but then I just couldn’t. However, I have made a new appointment which will be on Friday 25 May.

I feel awful about it, but I just couldn’t gear myself up to go. I will definitely go to the next appointment though.

Would you like me to come and hold your hand?

Awww, I feel for you. It sounds like you have a very understanding dentist and I’m sure he’ll put you at ease.

I don’t like going either, but once you’re there it’s not so bad - really.

Make sure you keep that appointment Mollie, you will thank yourself for it in the end.

Yis please, Mister Chippy.

My dentist is very understanding indeed, Carmen. I’ve never minded going to the dentist because I’ve never had a problem with my teeth, so it’s just been a question of the 6-monthly check up and clean. This is different though. :frowning:

Not sure how it works in other areas but here if you cancel or miss two appointment then you are struck off their list.

Yes, it’s the same here.

Don’t be mard Mollie, you wont feel a thing, I’ve had several teeth out and a few fillings, it doesn’t hurt,
If you go to the same dentist as me he wont hurt at all.

Its not the pain Mollie is scared about Jimmy. Its the thought of having False Teeth. Its a big thing for her & she doesnt fancy it at all.

Make sure you go next time Mollie. In a couple of months when its all over you will wonder what you were scared about & then you can do  :-D:-D:-D

its the keeping your mouth open for long that bothers me lol
