Think her husband runs her family business and provides
Hi Surfer.
The problem is widespread and scary and is not new, it has happened for years.
What is scary is that it has become acceptable, strangulation during sex was unheard of in my youth, now it has become common and acceptable.
Ancient though I am, I find it totally wrong, sex should be fun for both partners, not scary.
My two younger sisters were taught by yours truly in how to protect themselves by big brother, and not in a nice acceptable way, but in a very effective way.
As has been the case with my great niece and pretend granddaughters.
Down the abusers go and they are not getting up for some time.
I find the modern way of treating females absolutely wrong and totally despicable, yet is all over things like TicTok and the girls are supposed to enjoy it.
They don’t and it it dangerous for them.
Strangulation is not fun, it is dangerous and has absolutely no place in making love.
I also find it completely wrong that I should have to find myself in a situation where I am teaching young girls how to defend themselves and doing so leathally.
Young love used to be fun for both and innocent fumbling never hurt anyone, all part of being a teenager.
The world has changed and I am not comfortable with it.
Here in Oz too.
St Louis ?
(I’m tempted to go off topic with Judy Garland…)
It’s a shame, Swimmy, but children and teens have seen so much online, that they hardly know what is normal or real anymore, and they definitely don’t know they have the right to say no to any and all of it. If I was a young teen in this day and age, I’d be terrified or a good deal of expectations of what’s being portrayed out there.
I can’t remember whether it was an Egyptian pharaoh or an Venetian governor (the downside of reading too many books at once), but he commented that until a young woman could walk through the streets at night with a gold tray on her head and without a care in the world, he was failed man. The same could be said for a nation, too.
There’s always hope… ![]()
It’s wise to keep young teens from trips to big cities and especially out of the downtown tall buildings.
But there is not a small town safe from preds either!
You have to check, fact check again and again about internet crap.
They found that 18 year old cheerleader under a bed in the Cruise ship, what, with her family, with stuff on top of her.
And the FBI has identified her 16 y.o. step brother as a suspect. We also have a 9 y.o. Cleveland boy who was just arrested with another boy for attempted murder and rape of a 5 y.o.
Someone try to convince me that the parents* aren’t responsible or shouldn’t be held accountable.
*Including any absent fathers.
HI
You and some other ladies are so much better at putting into words how I feel than I am.
You bring into perspective things I find difficult to talk about but which need to be addressed.
Decades ago I was involved in the creation of one of the first Female Refuges here in the UK, in Ipswich
The Politicians , stupid as they are, insisted on being filmed out it’s location, causing huge problems.
Lol not at my age as you know men way more then women as years roll by we become just dug in our ways .
Absent fathers as far as not paying child support are a monster of a problem here in the USA but as you know RARELY prosecuted
Social media has been poison for kids girls / boys not just depression , addiction but trying to be 21 when you are 11 .
It is here to stay but a disease add so many addicted to texting .
There’s an urgent, in my view, need to apply greater oversight & controls in social media - and to change the legislation that absolves social media companies of any responsibility for the content (and thus the harm) that results.
I imagine rest of World more or less same –
" 86% of young Americans want to become a social media influencer"
86% of young Americans want to become a social media influencer
Worse are Reels (Facebook term - short video clips). I would not advice spending much time scrolling through these - pretty soon you’ll get pushed short videos that are right on the edge of pornography. I was happily watching clips of the excellent goals by Scotland in their game against Denmark when one scroll too many … whoa!
This is not making the effort to be an influencer. This is simply showing yourself in risky outfits to get clicks. And money. Is this really what young people aspire to these days?
lol yes I go on youtube as like gardening , cooking and fish keeping type videos but so many have changed that it is just stupid and second I see that nonsense I move on as KNOW the video content will be lousy
The money is one thing, but the shaping of one’s character thanks to the modeling and guidance by a father is what’s missing the most.
Agreed, but that needs to come from the bottom up, as well. It takes two seconds to pull the plug, and no time at all to have children and teens work use their devices where they can be seen. We have to accept the inconvenience of getting more - not less - involved in screentime behavior.
Children and teens are living in a virtual world of the unattainable - becoming more depressed and isolated, and foregoing all the basics of life that we are hard wired to give us satisfaction, self-determination, and enjoyment.
Internet content is the latest and most powerful drug yet, and so many are devastatingly addicted.
One of my sayings is that in Miami you go a wedding and the Groom and Bride are texting each other their vows instead of saying them .
And everyone else is watching it all happen through the screen of their phones. While they are right there.
I was talking with a fellow at a Truckstop as we waited to use the john 20 years ago. He was telling me about how he had to split from Iowa to Texas due to the Alimony and Child support. He had a second family down there. He had had to stay in Texas for an extended period of time after bad weather there.
After a bit we both are side by side at the parking lot, all the windows broken out of his truck.
He told me the same thing had happened to his camping RV. He left it in Iowa.
