Do you wear reading glasses?

Hopefully you can see the speed dials on your dash clearly

I wear vari-focal specs & have to wear them most of the time now. Will need cataracts sorted at some stage, but am resisting that.

I lost mine 3 weeks ago. Never seem to be able to hold onto them.

Stupid idiot that I am. I buy bi-focals so that I do not need to juggle two pairs of glasses. But I often take my glasses off to read or use the computer. Unsure if this will work when I am driving.

 Does not make a lot of sense. Your bifocals are for reading and distance, yes?

It is not “reading and distance” but far and near, because a person is short sighted but that also means that close objects without the glasses are well in focus.

So it does make sense, I have multifocal lenses (posh bifocals :icon_wink:) I wear them driving because I can see where I am going but also read the speedo and instrument panel without having to peer under the glasses but for reading it is just as comfortable, if not more so, to take the glasses off and hold the book a little closer to my eyes to read it.

My mother was shortsighted, she had a ridiculous “ladies” watch smaller than 10mm in diameter, the only way she could read it was by removing her glasses and holding her wrist within 50mm of her eyes

Where are Varifocals on the downunder poshness scale?

I think multifocals and varifocals might be the same thing.

I wear bifocals for driving, they made the road signs a bit clearer and I could see the numbers on the dashboard, but as time went on, I can read the road signs without the specs, and the distance lens now works when looking at the numbers

So now I don’t wear glasses at all when driving, and Mrs Fox just tells me if I’m going to hit something
Mind you, she always has, together with giving other motorists the finger when required and shouting at cyclists if they are not wearing a helmet

I got my first pair of glasses for reading last year. I can generally read most print but small print defeats me. It is less of a strain for long periods of reading books also. Ordering them online I accidentally bought a pair of Women’s frames but no matter they do the job and I wouldn’t have guessed apart from the box they came in.

I need glasses for reading, if I don’t wear them the type is blurred.
The real problem with glasses, as I see it, is that they have become a fashion accessary, and that jacks the price up considerably.
It’s all about making money, out of people who have a physical disability.

It’s admirable that you’re unashamed to admit it (we won’t tell anyone) :innocent:

Oh yes, I’ve been wearing reading glasses for years. My sight was perfect until I reached my 40s. I make sure I have a pair in almost every room of the house, always in my handbag too, how could I read the prices while doing the shopping, otherwise? :astonished:
Now I also have a pair of glasses I should wear all the time, but I don’t really, for driving yes, but I often forget them at home.

Quite

I wear Mrs Fox’s glasses when I forget my own, or I borrow her hat and gloves, but in my defence, Mrs Fox is a bit ‘Butch’ so it doesn’t look too bad

I also admit to wearing her tights with my shorts when I used to go out running in the really cold weather

I have tried in vain to get a pair of glasses like the NHS ones I had as a child. The ones with wire springy bits that go behind the ears and a tortoiseshell frame.

Have been totally unsuccessful. The irony is that has a young child I hated them and couldn’t wait to get a proper pair but these days I would like the firmer fit

I guess they are the same as multi-focals.
