Do people who smoke cigarettes know they stink of those cigarettes?

Ciggies are so expensive these days that it’s rare to come across even a whiff. Perhaps down under the taxes aren’t as high as in the UK.

I never used a machine but used liquorice paper, made them a bit sweeter. :grinning:

A pack of 20 cigarettes is around $40 in Australia. £20
Same packet in UK £16 - AU$32

There is a certain irony in that, when I came to Australia a packet of King size cigarettes cost about half of the price of those tiny Woodbines they used to sell in the UK at the time. I used to buy a carton of Senior Service which were as cheap as chips here (never liked filter cigarettes)

Is smoking banned in public places such as restaurants and bars?

It only seems that when people stop smoking do they realise how they smelt.
I have never smoked, but the majority of my family did.
I banned smoking in my house when i had children.

Absolutely, and banned in railway stations, open air dining, within 10 metres of the entrance to a building, in private cars containing children.

I also was told that the price of a packet of fags was more like $50, I don’t know, I gave it up when the price approached $1. There is no way to tell because they can’t be advertised and are not allowed to be on display.

Less than 10% of adults in Australia smoke

Surprising that people still smoke. Perhaps there’s a business in duty free.

Actually the high price has made smuggling worthwhile as well as Chop-Chop (illegally grown tobacco)

When I was in Oz, back in the days when I was a smoker, I remember tarty looking girls going into bars, giving cigarettes away: freebie samples of a new brand.

Back in the day when I
worked in conference display we’d set up events for some of the big guns in the tobacco industry.
Some of the girls/reps were gorgeous :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Mind you, this wasn’t Oz ,:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

For me, I can’t stand being near anybody who smells of cigarettes so; when someone passes by me, for example on the bus and I can smell it then, I hold my breath until they are completely away from me. I used to be a smoker; but, as soon as I hit (35) I quit cold turkey; and haven’t had one since, I still get cravings but; will not have one; I am proud of myself :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes it is banned in all food establishments and indoors. Even some outdoor malls.

Also some outdoor places like not within 10 m of playgrounds and also outdoor sports stadiums.

But re food establishments - pubs often have an outdoor designated area where you can smoke.

This leaves me with questions, if a person goes through the trouble of protecting themself (vaccinations…ect) why should they expose themselves to the dangers an unvaxed person presents(which were / are very real) ? The same with non-smokers, why should they be subjected to the dangers of 2nd hand smoke? All this leaves me impressions of people who are inconsiderate and selfish. If you do not want to be vaccinated or wish to smoke cool, tis your right, but respect others rights as you would have yours respected, it’s a 2- way street you know.
