DME or MRO on Whiplash injury claim

I’m going through a whiplash claim as my neck was injured when we had our crash, I still have pain in my neck region so I have decided to put in a claim.

I’m filling out the form and it is asking do I want a DME (direct medical examiner) or MRO (Medical Reporting Organisation) and I don’t know what I should choose.

It asked me how far I was willing to travel so I said 5 miles but the 4 DMEs they have sent me are all miles away, if I click MRO to find another I cannot go back,.

Has anyone here done a whiplash claim and do you know why there are two different medical things to choose between, also do you know which is best? I don’t understand it really.

Thanks in advance

I’m surprised that your insurers haven’t put you in touch with anyone about your claim. When someone thrutched me up the boot, many years ago. My insurers made me an appointment with a local private hospital for a check-up. There wasn’t a damned thing wrong with me and I didn’t want to bother, but they insisted. Obviously, the insurance of the driver that ran into me would have been picking up the tab.

They sent me to claim through Ministry of Justice. I haven’t really got a clue what I’m doing

I made a claim for whiplash injury and won that claim, when I had my car accident over 3 yrs ago, I had to go and see a doctor who dealt in whiplash claims, I had to stand up so he could examine me,he also asked me to move certain parts of my body, arms, turning my neck, how far I could turn it,also was asked a lot of questions by him, I could not drive after my accident I was in a lot of pain.

This is not aimed at you LQ, because I’m sure it’s genuine, but many go and claim for whiplash and there is nothing wrong with them, it also said on my letter from the doctor ,that if it is found that nothing is wrong with you then it will go against you.

I got quite a few thousand pay out…but still suffer with pain in my neck at times.

I also had to go for neck therapy ,straight after the accident ,( can’t remember what they are called) six weeks I believe, that was extremely painful, all paid for by the insurance.

I wasn’t going to claim at first but then I thought I should because my neck has not been right since the accident. It especially affects me at work because I’m sat down and try as I might to find the right posture in my chair the pain is awful. Also I get a feeling it the top of my spine where it constantly tingles. I also get bad pain if I look up or down, it feels like it wants to snap which is alarming. I can turn my head sude to side a bit better now though as at first I couldn’t which is why I had to wear a neck brace, the brace was so uncomfortable but they had their reasons for putting it on, they needed to check my neck wasn’t broken, scary stuff.

I.m worrying its not going to go away as its been a few weeks now since the injury. I have to be under the physio for special exercises which I’m not looking forward to but I know it has to be done if I want to get better which of course I do.

I think I need to ringvthe insurance company for help, I dont know if I should choose MDE or the other specialist and I dont get why you have to choose , why they can’t just send me to a MSK doctor locally

Out of curiosity LQ, have you been driving?

As soon as I entered the building to see the whiplash specialist.
The first thing they asked at reception was how I got there, did you drive, no I said, it’s just cost me a fortune to get a taxi here!

Also I believe you aren’t allowed to drive while wearing a hard collar, I had to go through a lot of channels before they paid out and it took months.

Yes I do drive again now. Perhaps my injuries weren’t as serious as yours but I still have a lot of pain so I am eligible for compensation. As I said previously I can turn my neck much better now, it’s the looking up and down that is the problem with me, also I have rear cameras on my car so I don’t need to crick my neck to reverse. I don’t wear a neck brace now, the neck brace was put in place by ambulance staff when the accident happened as they were being cautious in case I had fractured or broken my neck because I couldn’t turn my head without moving the whole of my top half of body on the day of the accident.

I’ve just gone back to work after needing to take off almost a month, luckily I am getting paid from work.
