Hi
The virus is still mutating and the projections are for two more waves this year.
What is not clear is whether this will matter as the mutations could well be more infectious but less dangerous.

A further fall - we’re back to the level of 3rd December 2021 …
I wonder how many of those who are testing positive have had Covid previously … that would be interesting to know wouldn’t it?
Indeed … and here’s an estimate:
1 February
From representing around one in 100 daily cases up to November, reinfections now make up one in 10. Those reinfections are likely to be people infected by the Alpha or Delta variants and then infected again by the more contagious Omicron.
Although vaccines are good at protecting against serious illness, the protection they offer against infection from Omicron tails off quickly and, after 20 weeks, is likely to be very low.
That means infections will continue to rise, and at some point in the future, all new cases could be reinfections.
Because second infections are usually milder than initial ones, any increase in the 155,000 deaths which have occurred during the pandemic so far, is likely to be very small.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce new relaxations to Covid rules in England on Monday. This could include scrapping PCR test centres and free lateral flow tests as part of a “living with Covid” strategy. The government has spent billions of pounds on testing throughout the pandemic. Experts believe in future it could be used only in hospitals and care settings, or to deal with major outbreaks.
In the survey of more than 300 NHS leaders, four-fifths said they disagreed with the expected plan to end free testing. And they also expressed the need for regular testing to continue for health staff and key workers.
The NHS Confederation also said 75% of senior staff in England did not want self-isolation rules to end.
Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the confederation, said: “Hospital admissions and deaths linked to coronavirus continue to fall nationally and this is allowing the NHS to bring back many routine services that it was asked to de-prioritise during the peaks of the pandemic, including some non-urgent elective procedures. With the success of the vaccine and new Covid treatments, this offers real hope as we learn to live with the virus. But the government cannot wave a magic wand and pretend the threat has disappeared entirely.”
He said not enough was yet known about how much long-term protection vaccines provided and there was still the uncertainty of future strains developing.
Other organisations such as the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and the MS Society have also expressed disquiet about the proposes “relaxations”.
