Coronavirus: Third wave will 'wash up on our shores', warns Johnson

Boris squanders vaccine victory with ‘Freedom Day’ chaos

The UK Government is in danger of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in its Covid strategy. After a disastrously ill-judged initial response to the pandemic, , ministers came close to redeeming themselves with the headstart they achieved in vaccine rollout, but like drunken sailors on shore leave, are now busy squandering their gains.

This may be more of a political story, with potentially far reaching public health implications, than an economic one; eventually many of the confusions we are today seeing in policy - vaccine passports, travel traffic lights, and so on - will sort themselves out. But in the meantime business is feeling it where it hurts most, with visibility and confidence draining away accordingly.

Global stock markets have been spooked this week by a sudden pick up across many countries in delta variant infections (the one first identified in India), and its potentially more threatening sister, the delta-plus variant. After months of complacency, doubts have returned; there is a dawning realisation that normality may still be some distance off. Yet there is a special type of ineptitude that seems to be infecting us here in Britain.

Harsh words from the Torygraph … :!:

Hi

I simply do not get those who still think he has done a good job, either with Brexit or Covid.

I simply do not get those who think the opposite either, especially when the weight of evidence suggests these to be incorrect.

We in this country are extremely fortunate and we have much to be grateful for compared even to our neighbours, never mind globally.
It’s time the nonsensical polarizing nonsense stopped and energies instead put towards unification and moving forward IMHO.

I guess they’re gullible … :102:

That’ll be just like those thinking the opposite then.

Meantime normal folk like myself are seeing things pootling along nicely and are grateful for what we’ve got and where we are.

I agree.

The proportion of people aged 20 to 29 testing positive for Covid in England has hit record levels, officials say.

Public Health England’s figures show, in the last week, 1,155 people in their 20s tested positive for every 100,000 in the population.

Experts say this is the highest rate of cases in any age group since mass-testing began and urge everyone in this group to get both jabs.

It comes as data shows 59% of people in their 20s have had one jab.

Meanwhile people aged 85 and above continue to be most likely to need hospital care.

Dr Yvonne Doyle, medical director at Public Health England, said hospital admissions and deaths were not growing as quickly as in previous waves, but cases were on the rise and would be monitored.

LONDON, July 23 - The prevalence of COVID-19 infections in England is estimated to have risen to 1 in 75 people in the week to July 17, Britain’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Friday, up from 1 in 95 recorded the week before.

“We estimate that 741,700 people within the community population in England had COVID-19… equating to around 1 in 75 people,” the ONS said.

Although case rates are currently falling, next week may well see significant increases due to “freedom” … :expressionless:

24 July 2021

Because of technical difficulties in processing England deaths data, today’s update is delayed.

A further 31,795 confirmed cases in the UK were announced on Saturday.

This is from the BBC only.

If true, it represents a staggering drop of 23,000 cases per day over the last 7 days …

Despite “Freedom Day” being last Monday, Covid infections have in fact reduced by half in a week according to The Times.
:041:
It’s early days to say whether or not this trend will continue but so far it is certainly making the doom-laden prophesising of the naysayers look ridiculous.

Has it soaked in yet that we are all been had…:009:

Strange that there are no figures suggesting how many vaccinated people there are in hospitals.
No vaccinated people are currently in hospital with covid, or at least you can count them on one hand…However! There are literally thousands of vaccinated people in hospital with unrelated illnesses…:017:

I noticed in yesterdays news that scientists are worried now about the “new” Gamma variant from Russia, and this allegedly renders the vaccines we have all been advised to get, ineffective. so does this mean MORE vaccinations, or what?

Could you provide some data please?

I would like to Dex, but it would just provoke people to rubbish and discredit my sources, and quite frankly I don’t care if people believe me or not…:102:

Bolded bit, we’ve had the jab x2, still have to isolate should the ping thingy go off ( never bothered with it ) the purpose of the jab is ?
