Virus strains at the other side of the world are always going to come here as they do every winter with flu. Nobody can stop them, not even Boris!
BIB - So I … :mad2:
Indeed … he’s got most of the country believing that “doing his best” has saved lives, the NHS and the country …
Fair enough, he handled the vaccination programme well and we seem to have been vaccinated more successfully than most of the rest of the world, certainly the EU countries.
On the other hand, we are still being invaded regularly by locusts, a problem that could have been stopped far more effectively by now.
Part of our country (N.I.) still appears to be under EU control to an extent, and our maritime areas are still being plundered freely by our enemies.
Maggie and Churchill would never have allowed any of that.
I know that it has only been a little over 5 months since we left the EU, at least nominally, so I’m still hoping for more.
He’d better hurry up, though, because 2024 is looming.
BJ’s luck held … and the vaccines arrived just in time …
But BJ and Soapy are claiming more credit than is their due … :!:
Yes, agreed. Credit should be given to the manufacturers, certainly the Oxford-AstraZenica people who agreed to sell theirs at cost price.
The EU’s problems, of course, were of their own making.
A further 7,490 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Saturday.
That figure keeps us on 25th February … :!:
Deaths and admissions are increasing …
Aye, looks like we are going backwards now. Even in Scotland here, we have an R number of 1.2-1.4. Not good at all.
Same in England:
Latest R and growth rate for England
Latest R range for England
1.2 to 1.4
Latest growth rate range for England
+3% to +6%
per day
An R value between 1.2 and 1.4 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 12 and 14 other people.
A growth rate of between 3% and 6% means that the number of new infections is growing by between 3% and 6% every day.
So, the figures may well be worse in a couple of weeks …
Crikey, well fingers cross BJ does the right thing then
Indeed … :!:
Lockdown easing in England to be delayed by four weeks
Senior ministers have signed off a decision to delay the lifting of all coronavirus restrictions in England beyond 21 June.
Government sources have told the BBC most current rules will remain for another four weeks after this date.
It means nightclubs will stay closed and people will be encouraged to still work from home where possible.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to confirm the delay later at a press conference.
No doubt BJ will avoid taking personal responsibility for causing the COVID surge which necessitates this delay …
… but if this is the last lockdown before winter then it will be worth it - we don’t want a rerun of last September when “Incompetent” Harding "didn’t see it coming …
This seems to have become, more and more, a battle between (1) being able to earn Money or (2) Preventing loss of lives.
There’ll be a “Red Line” discussion soon.
Where should the boundary be?
I’m not sure if Furlough is still going on down there…if it is, surely that would help a wee bit? Brings more debt, of course, but if it keeps people safer…?
Yes well,l allthough Delta cases are rising, deaths are very low and
stable still !!
And don’t forget that with normal flu, that older and more sickly
people always used to die of it in the winters anyway !! usually of
respiratory ailments ?? And we used to cope with that then ??
So what’s different now?
The only thing different l can see is the more “efficient” NHS we
have now ??
Donkeyman !
Fair comment donkeyman.
And how come we have suddenly not heard of one single case of Flu for the last 12 months?
Maybe some of the Covid deaths were really Flu?
I would struggle to believe that after years and years of Flu every winter, it has suddenly stopped!
Just a few weeks ago:
05 May 2021
More dying of flu than Covid as coronavirus deaths plunge to lowest level in seven months
Weekly registered deaths involving coronavirus in England and Wales are at their lowest level for seven months, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that deaths from Covid are down 28 per cent on last week and are at the lowest number since the week ending September 25.
Deaths caused by Covid were at 260 - but it was only listed as the underlying cause for 176 people.
This is compared to 278 deaths listed for flu and pneumonia - however this was mentioned on 1,203 death certificates.
Flu is obviously still present but its’ effects have been presumably obscured by those of COVID.
Thanks Omah.
I hadn’t heard anything about Flu for ages.
Nor had I … there are weekly statistics but, again, they’re “buried” by those of COVID.
Thanks for confirming my observations Omah !!
It seems our health experts think it’s ok to die of flu but not ok
to die of covid ?
I wonder why ?
So how many beds are being taken up in hospitals by flu patients ?
Maybe there is NO covid bed crisis after all ?
Could it be that the powers that be are too embarassed to admit
that they caused all this disruption and expense over nothing much
worse than the common cold ??
With the help of the media of course ?
Donkeyman!
