Coronavirus: Third wave will 'wash up on our shores', warns Johnson

A further 6,048 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Tuesday.

That figure takes us back to 28th February …

But how many deaths?

There’s also the problem regarding how deaths are recorded.
Did he die of Covid, or did he die with Covid?

Thanks to BJ and Soapy … :!:

Thanks. To be honest, I’d say that the third figure is likely to be the most accurate, although by no means certain.

Question….how many died TODAY?

I hope you receive the answer to your question soon, Vlad

I’d say the second figure - it’s as reported by the attending physician (or equivalent) and not manipulated by the government.

I think that the Covid infection numbers are more important to some…
I have googled……wait for it ……the number of people who died yesterday from Covid was…….0….ZERO…NONE…ZILCH,

That number doesn’t have the same impact though does it….the doomsayers like big numbers

:023:

“The death certificate mentions Covid”

Well of course! An old person dies of some completely unrelated cause, but the doctor feels he ought to mention that s/he had Covid.

It certainly doesn’t mean that s/he died of it and may not even state that Covid was a contributory cause of the death.

That’s because the person may have survived without the contribution of COVID - the third figure is an estimate based on previous years (pre-COVID) figures.

See ONS or similar for a fuller explanation.

Well I suppose it all depends on how the doctor’s report is worded.

A further 7,540 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Wednesday.

That’s a massive increase (40% increase on the 7-day average) and the figure takes us back to 25th February …

Luckily Marge has just had her second vaccination today, so hopefully we’re both now relatively safe, especially as we know how to behave.

Deaths today 13

except that they are not dying in hospital…if confirmed cases don’t equal hospitalisation then I don’t understand any panic

Nobody’s panicking … yet … :069:

The dead and the dying are only part of the pattern of a pandemic …

A pandemic is an epidemic occurring on a scale that crosses international boundaries, usually affecting people on a worldwide scale. A disease or condition is not a pandemic merely because it is widespread or kills many people; it must also be infectious. For instance, cancer is responsible for many deaths but is not considered a pandemic because the disease is not contagious (i.e. easily transmittable) and not even simply infectious.

An epidemic the rapid spread of disease to a large number of people in a given population within a short period of time. For example, in meningococcal infections, an attack rate in excess of 15 cases per 100,000 people for two consecutive weeks is considered an epidemic.

An epidemic may be restricted to one location; however, if it spreads to other countries or continents and affects a substantial number of people, it may be termed a pandemic. The declaration of an epidemic usually requires a good understanding of a baseline rate of incidence; epidemics for certain diseases, such as influenza, are defined as reaching some defined increase in incidence above this baseline. A few cases of a very rare disease may be classified as an epidemic, while many cases of a common disease (such as the common cold) would not. An epidemic can cause enormous damage through financial and economic losses in addition to impaired health and loss of life.

A further 7,393 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Thursday.

That figure keeps us back on 25th February … :!:

Deaths…today …5 that’s FIVE
