Realist, l understand your concern but we are talking about half a tablet as and when needed, not 8 a day as prescribed!
If you are breaking your tablet in half why not change over to
Co-dydramol which are inexpensive, or are you a label/tag girl:-D:-D
Davey, l take what l can tolerate. I am allergic or suffer adverse reactions to lots of medication.
I take the bare minimum of everything.
I understand we are similar. I just wondered why you break an expensive brand in half when a far less expensive tablet with the same ingredients is available?
He has been brilliant and been doing everything but he’s looking tired .- he’s quite fragile since his heart attack .
It’s sobering to find out what you can’t do without two hands .
Simple things like pulling on a pair of jeans or boots become difficult .
We will see how tomorrow goes and if not we will drive to Bristol hospital who are very good .
I don’t know if we can just turn up I supose so or I will ask for a referral .
Now Mungo is not looking good too he has a temperature although he is eating and lively I don’t like the look of him .
I hope it’s not kennel cough .
The trouble is people get this blooming kennel cough vaccine and it sheds kennel cough to all and sundry .
Will have to fit in the vet tomorrow
( maybe he could take a look at me )
So that’s the three of us .
The muddy household is falling like flies .
Years ago when I had trigeminal neuralgia I became quite hooked on nurofen plus which is codeine + ibuprofen. I’d panic if I didn’t have them to hand. So I can understand how people in chronic pain can become so dependent. They give you a slight buzz when you are feeling rough and you get used to the intense relief.
Cocodamol doesn’t IMO have the same effect. Too much paracetamol for me. I’d prefer to have just the codeine. If only. I started on cocodamol and then graduated onto ibuprofen/codeine.
All these things are good when you need short term relief from intense pain. But taking any med all the time can create complications.
They have been available OTC for decades now. It’s to stop you having to go to your GP all the time. The theory is that the pharmacist will have a discussion with you about the medication. The reality is that half the time they don’t bother. Whatever the consequences I have been eternally grateful that I can just buy some at the chemist when I’ve had the need for them. They have been a lifesaver.
I hope you feel better soon Muddy.
What a worry for you, Muddy.
Is Mungo’s temperature up much?
Hope tomorrow brings some better news for all of you. x
Thank you Annie and Mups .
Mungo has a hot nose and discharge from his eyes and panting a lot today .
He’s as lively as ever but you know when you know something is not right .
Hope everything goes well for you, Muddy.
Hi Muddy, l hope everything goes well for you today and your thumb will soon be back to normal.
I am sorry to hear that Mungo, isn’t too well. I hope he soon gets better too.
So that leaves Mr M to be a nurse to you both! He’ll be rushed off his feet!
That’s very true about ibuprofen, my husband has been on it for years and they prescribe another tablet to take before the ibuprofen to protect his stomach. Worth asking about that if you have to take them any length of time.
People advising using natural remedies please don’t just come off prescribed medications without informing your GP as they can have affects you don’t expect, also not all natural remedies are side effect free.
Thank you Ffosse.
That is right Julie, your husband probably takes a PPI like Omeprazole which reduces the acid that is produced to digest you food. It helps prevent any burns to the stomach lining, but please tell your husband that, if he has to take them longterm & then stops he may need reduce them over a couple a weeks or he will get nasty acid indigestion.
Thanks twink will do that.
I’ve been on lansoprazole for years because I kept getting acid reflux and would go through countless packets of Rennies.
That is what they are for, to reduce acid production, & it is ok to take them long term but, if you stop taking them, the acid increases again and makes the situation worse.
If you ever have to stop taking them because your acid reflux goes away, it is wise to reduce the dose slowly so your stomach adjusts to the higher amount of acid.
You just take one every other day, then every 3rd day… and so on till you can stop them completely.
Your doctor should advise you on this, but they sometimes forget… till you start having bad indigestion!
Many people stay on them for the rest of their lives, but if you just take them to counter act the effect of Ibuprofen, you will need to reduce slowly, if you have been on them a long time.
Have spent all day in hospital still here
Not the nicest place to be Muddy…but maybe the best place to help you get better.
Yes and all the young doctors and nurses have been very kind .
I hope they can get you on the mend Muddy. I hadn’t realised it was your hand.
