Churches And Gravestones

French laws have an attitude I do believe, if its written as a law, then it will be carried out.
The Average French person nod in agreement, when deemed…but actually follow their hearts in truth, smile and ignore a lot of the Napoleon based garbage laws…
digging up a grave would require at least a realm of paperwork

Highgate Cemetery oozes atmosphere …

Goodness … I never realised this … on their site it says …

To buy a plot in advance you must be over 80 years of age or terminally ill.

Nothing like trying to avoid an overlong completion date for the prospective occupant.

Sad and often abandoned places heh?

I’ve seen that site used in a few TV programmes.

In another setting, that second photo could be a row of beach huts.

I went on a Ghost walk to a place like High Gate in Edinburgh we were ushered into a crypt just like those in the photo , it was empty of a coffin and the story teller stood at the entrance telling us the ghostly tale when a person dressed in a Skeleton Suit and mask jumped in .We collasped like a deck of cards .
The story teller went on to finish by saying odd things had happened to people who had stood in the crypt , well on my way back to the hotel, I almost fell on my face , it was as if someone had pushed me from behind , I couldnt stop myself , and gathered speed down the street as if propelled .

Was that the Greyfriars Cemetery Ghost Walk? It’s a scary place right enough. :+1:

Another Cemetery I have seen up on a hill as I used to come into Glasgow fascinated me, it looked a real Dracula Haunt :ghost: :eyes: I’ll maybe manage to visit it sometime…In broad daylight of course.
The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland. It is on a low but very prominent hill to the east of Glasgow Cathedral. Fifty thousand individuals have been buried here. Typical for the period, only a small percentage are named on monuments and not every grave has a stone.

@Rox that looks spooky, Rox :open_mouth:

@Rox yes thats the one and its suppose to have a Poltergeist, many people report things happening after .
The guide took us to the part that was locked behind iron gates , that gave a rise to the ghostly effect its the Convenanters Prison section .

After leaving Greyfriars we then saw the dog statue of BOBBY , watched that film many times and have the book.

Yes not a nice place at all, I’ve been round it once a long time ago on a day visit to the City.
I understand in 1679 it was used as a prison for over one thousand supporters of the National Covenant who had been defeated by Government forces at the battle of Bothwell Brig on 22 June. For over four months these men were held here without any shelter, each man being allowed 4 ounces of bread a day. Kindly citizens were sometimes able to give them more food. :flushed:

There’s an abbey close to where I live…its 12th Century and still used for services and suchlike. At Christmas time they have it all lit up and the stained glass windows look incredible when the sun shines through them. I must try and find a photo…

Sorry about my short absence; I just had to pop out for a bit. :slightly_smiling_face:

I was going to post some pictures of a church I went to recently, but it seems I am not allowed to post pictures. I think they are hoping I’ll get fed up and just go away. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
