Car insurance recommendation please

I would like to change the details of my car insurance, and so far it has proved impossible!

I am currently with Churchill, and they are the worst company I have ever dealt with for any subject - all they have is a website with standard questions & tick box responses
About a week ago I was bounced around their automated phone menu and website for nearly an hour without getting anywhere
Eventually I found a phone enquiry number and was put on the usual ‘your call is important to us’ for over 20 minutes, only to speak to someone with an Indian accent that I could hardly understand, but hopefully I left my instructions
It would appear not as this morning I got a bank statement but the direct debit was unchanged - Huh!

So I have decided to cancel my current insurance and go elsewhere.
So (again) can you recommend car insurance from a company that you can actually communicate with please?
Either by phone with a human advisor who can speak something like decent English or failing that at least with a proper email so you can leave an actual message instead of just ticking a list of their standard questions … and also with breakdown cover

Or any other helpful advice?

Thanks

I’ve used saga and direct line, I went back to saga as DL put up their prices to ridiculous levels, most companies do things online now which can be easier if your savvy that way, of course, until you make a claim, you don’t know how good they are…

Over the past 65 years I have insured with almost every one out there and since I have been with Admiral, I’ve been satisfied as I can pick the phone up and talk to a person who listens and will also pass me over the correct department for my particular question. I thought Hastings was approaching good util I tried Admiral.

I was also with Churchill until last year, when they hiked up my car insurance premiums considerably. Tried to do a deal with them, but with little success. The cheapest quote I got was from Admiral, so I went with them. I have’nt had to get in touch with them so far, but unlike Churchill, they do send me news and offers now and again by e-mail.

There is a page somewhere within Admiral where you can decline their news pages and set other things to OFF too.

I insured one of my past housees and its contents with Churchill. It was rent in twain by a tornado (1998) and Churchill appointed a loss adjuster from the most corrupt company possible (now no longer trading). I rejected nigh on every part of Churchill’s rebuild. They of course passed me back to their corrupt adjustor, so I took the whole lot to the Insurance Ombudsman who wiped the floor with them. Via the IO at that time, I was passed the rebuild to handle myself, with Churchill the paymaster, and the whole new rebuild went as smooth as water off a duck’s back, with the total cost over double of the 1st so called rebuild
I would never ever trust Churchill again and I also advise others to steer clear of them too.
The Loss Adjuster C E&B staggered on until finally it was wound up 1/10/2009 and registered NF003536 at Companies House as closed.
