Canon Power Shot Camera Will Not Download on New Laptop

So I connect the lead to the Laptop and to the camera the other end…
it makes a bit of a noise and can see a quick flash of a photo I had last taken,The camera then will switch off… Now tried it my old laptop and it worked for a couple of days and now nout…So there is no point using the camera until I find a fix for this…I don’t have a slot for a SD card either…

I use a very old program that Google abandoned called Picasa to transfer pictures from my camera (and do simple editing) It is still available from sites that specialise in old software - just search on Picasa 3
