Butterfly v Other Insects

I am certain butterflies have no sense of direction.
Sat in my sun lounge, door wide open, in flies a Peacock butterfly, it fluttered around a bit, before I could get to it started bashing itself against a window pane, looked in a panic, .The window was wide open just above where it fluttered. Stupid thing I thought & gently nudged it upwards with my pond net, it went out the window in a rush, not even saying thank you.
Carried on reading my book, then in through open door, a Red Admiral, that one flew at the window too but this time I was ready for it net in hand. Persuaded it to the door where the stupid thing landed on the shelf above with wings beating at the pane above door. I managed to get it out the door, still no thanks as it sped off across the garden.
Back to my book, in flew a wasp, must admit I cowered a bit, don’t trust wasps, that flew around the sun lounge a few times then whizzed past my ear & out the door. Next in was a bee, don’t mind those & by now had given up on the book. That also flew around a few times & out the door. A fly, large one, was the last in, that too flew around then out the door.
Now if those last three insects know exactly were they came in, why don’t butterflies. I now think butterflies have no sense of direction & not much sense either. No doubt when I’m not there to rescue them a few will get trapped again & there is a large house spider living somewhere in the sun lounge so they will probably & sadly have a nasty end.
