Steve my first employee liked to work with me rather than work in the second vehicle with younger lads,
I found out it was because he was a quiet Lad and he’d become the butt of the other lads jokes etc,
We had work in places out of the way or you could say off the beaten track, such as farms being one of these places,& church houses,
These people wanted the windows cleaned and gutters cleaned etc And I started to keep steve close by my side,
I had one farm that the husband & son provided meat to the local Indoor market in Chester,
The Mother & daughter in-law stayed at home and looked after the kids plus a few more that they got paid to look after while the mothers went to work,
The yard was always a happy active place with the kids always playing, they had a dog an enlish bull terrier called pokey,
How that dog put up with being dressed like a baby one day & put in the pram another i dont know,
But he seemed happy,
when ever i went to this farm i’d make sure i raided the dogs biscuit tin i kept in the van so my pocket had a few treats for “POKEY”
As soon as he got a look in my direction the pram & baby dressing went out of the window and pokey came running over to me for his treat and a good rough stroke, He was only small but solid,
This one day all the household was in the yard and as always i got a good greeting,
But I could hear this sound of steve saying “Danny will you tell this dog to stop?”
As i turned to look in steves direction I could see “Pokey” had decided to mount steves leg and he was pounding away !!!
Why is he doing this to me “Steve asked” Tell him to stop,
I said it’s because he likes you Steve,
Well the farmers wife just fell about laughing and rushed into the Kitchen, her daughter in-law was holding the house wall up as she leaned on it laughing, and the kids we’re annoyed that the pram had been tipped upside down,
After Steve introduction to this little dog “Pokey” he would’nt come into the yard and he did all the front of the fenced off area of the farm,
I wonder why!!!
