British Coronavirus - new virulent strain of coronavirus which has arisen in the south of England

Give it time Zaphod, they might be playing the long game…

You would think that further data considering that millions of UK elderly have been vaccinated wouldn’t be long in being possible.
But hey, if a country would rather spend more on an expensive vaccine or - worse - subject its citizens to doing without that’s up to them since they are the ones that will be held responsible.
And so far already that isn’t going too well in the other countries restricting use.

Well if it was deliberate we all know that this is a typical Chinese tactic, the long game.

Quite…

Reports here - British researchers say one of the latest UK coronavirus variants is up to 100 per cent deadlier than previous strains. (absolutely no idea what that means I would have thought 100% of anything was the same as before?)

The B.1.1.7 variant is also up to 70 per cent more transmissible, according to the study.

By the same logic surely 70% is less than 100%, so does that mean that this variant is actually less transmissable and not more?
Or is that supposed to mean that it is 70% more of whatever percentage the “old” variant was transmissable, and how many percents was that transmissable exactly?
Ruddy pointless statistics.
:102:

The ‘Experts’ like to keep their foot on the gas to avoid complacency…Come the winter and a new strain will manifest itself that will be 150% more transmittable than the latest UK strain just identified that is 70% more transmittable than the original covid, that was supposed to be 50% more transmittable than the common flu…:017:

I’m going to brick up my front door and just have a serving hatch in the wall just big enough to accept one of Tesco’s green boxes containing supplies, and it will have to pass through an airlock and disinfecting stage…

And meanwhile world population soars !!

Donkeyman!

Nothing is unsolvable. It just takes time and intelligent minds. This is why we are the most successful species on the planet. (cockroaches and bacteria aside…)

Why would any nationality deliberately create a virus that could also destroy them?

I’m not advocating some sort of tin-hat conspiracy theory here but rather looking at the facts so far, okay?

“That could also destroy them”?
You’re kidding!

China has reported just over 4.5 thousand deaths in a population of almost 1,440 million people!
That’s less per head of population than most places and way, way less than anywhere in Europe or North America.

Then look at which countries have seen the most growth during this pandemic.
Of the seven largest global economies only China’s has grown in 2020, by 4.9%.
The rest are well into negative territory.
In other words in 2020 China grew whilst the other 6 major global economies shrunk.

Look also at China’s recent and ongoing actions, like their treatment of Uighers; Hong Kong and Taiwan; their building of islands in neutral seas to use as military bases and their huge military spending are just starters.

So yes the affects of Coronavirus on China might well just be a coincidence, but when does the evidence begin to suggest other possibilities in light of such facts?
There is a limit to how much can be coincidental before suspicion increases.

I agree Annie, over time, nothing is unsolvable, but the really clever bit is for the virus evolve and mutate. We may have won the battle, but the war is far from over…

As they say at the start of the six million dollar man “we have the technology”

Ha Ha Yes Annie, I never missed an episode…

Sometimes that technology produces more questions than it does answers Annie…:017:

The UK strain has once more escaped from hotel quarantine in Sydney

Health authorities are racing to identify the source of infection of a security guard who has tested positive for coronavirus.

The positive case breaks NSW’s 55-day streak of no locally acquired coronavirus cases.

The 47-year-old works mostly weekends at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney’s CBD and the Mantra Sydney Central hotel in Haymarket.

Under the state’s routine surveillance of quarantine staff, workers are tested after each shift.

The guard had received the first dose of the Covid Vaccine and was due to receive the second dose this week.

Another case of the UK Strain has turned up in Brsbane.

Queensland health authorities have detected another case of community transmission linked to a Stafford man who was confirmed to have coronavirus on Thursday.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said a Strathpine man had tested positive and contact tracers were still determining his movements.

She said a list of high-risk places would soon be released.

The Strathpine man was a close contact of the landscape gardener from Stafford, whose case was linked to another cluster in early March involving the highly infectious UK strain of the virus, known as B117.

Current restrictions in place for Queensland travellers include the state being classified as an “orange zone” by Victoria, meaning Queenslanders will need a permit to enter.

In New South Wales, close contacts of the two men will not be allowed to enter the state at all, and people who have been to the same locations as the men are being asked to get tested and self-isolate until they receive their result.

The WA government has announced that all arrivals into the state from Queensland will now have to be tested for COVID-19 and self-quarantine for 14 days or until they return a negative test.

The directive is effective immediately, meaning all arrivals must be tested within 48 hours.

Authorities say the “interim border control” will be in place until at least 12.01am on Tuesday.

Tasmania is asking anyone who has been in Brisbane or Moreton Bay since March 8 to monitor for symptoms.

Those who are yet to travel from parts of Queensland that Tasmania has designated as high-risk must seek permission to enter before they travel.

Similar restrictions are in place in the ACT and NT.

South Australia still lists Queensland as a “Low Community-Transmission Zone”.

Thank god the canal is blocked then Swimmy??

Donkeyman!

Nothing is unsolvable ??
What about the what’s it all about question OGF ??

Donkeyman!

According to the news here the “UK Strain” is now known as the “Kent Strain” because they now know where it came from.

Brisbane has locked down for 3 days and been declared a hotspot but this strain might have got out so they are keen to shut it down. They have traced the connection back to the case in Hotel Quarantine via an asymptomatic relative

Some very good news in both Queensland and NSW about the Uk Strain outbreak. The three day lockdown in Brisbane has not been extended and while some measures remain in place things are looking good.

Another nurse at the Princess Alexandra Hospital has been diagnosed as having had COVID-19, with Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young saying the historical case is the “missing link” in one of Brisbane’s recent clusters. The nurse was asymptomatic but now all the cases coming from the returning traveller in hotel quarantine can be linked

Queensland recorded no new cases of community transmission of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

In NSW where some of the infected people travelled to Byron Bay there was equally good news. NSW recorded no new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night

There were 20,061 COVID-19 tests carried out in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night.

More testing centres are now open in northern NSW, at venues in Byron Bay, Ballina, Lismore and Tweed Heads, where restrictions — including the wearing of masks in shops and public transport — have been reinstated.

While this outbreak cannot be said to be over yet these are very promising signs.
