Brexit is driving inflation higher in the UK than its European peers after identical supply shocks

Nothing to do with Brexit.

Have a look at the laffer curve, it explains about tax thresholds for maximum returns.

Furloughing was absolutely disgusting. It should NEVER have been deployed. It was intended to support businesses by keeping their workers in place over what was thought to be a short period until normal conditions returned. It was ANOTHER bit of chicanery by the corrupt government to support their business interests. It went pear shaped, now we are having to pay. The Johnson government really has been the pits.

We should never have had lockdowns.

It was all a big con

@The_Artful_Todger , Whilst l agree with what you say Todgy
The whole world had lock downs, but l dont think many had furlough ??
Does that mean Boris used furlough as a means of increasing his
popularity and pay off his big business buddies with public money??
That could explain the airline crisis we are suffering from now !!
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

Only to be expected. We were forewarned that voting brexit would mean we are buggered for decades to come.

No original thinking, cowardice and giving in to the socialists in SAGE.

The people were never part of this decision

I believe that is the case. Other countries that invoked furloughing did so on much different terms.

If BREXIT rather than BRINO were to have been delivered by Bunter we would be in a much better position now.

Brexit must be to blame for inflation in the USA then … ?

Boris does seem to be careless with taxpayers money, and £70 billion does seem extravagant, but then so does HS2…

How much will the HS2 cost?
According to wiki…

between £72bn and £98bn

How much will HS2 cost? The current estimated cost of HS2 is between £72bn and £98bn (at 2019 prices), compared with an original budget of £55.7bn in 2015 (at 2015 prices).18 Nov 2021

And financing wars in other countries takes a few quid also…It’s a good job we can afford it…

How much money have the UK given to Ukraine?

1.3 billion pounds

May 7, 2022, at 5:34 p.m. LONDON (Reuters) - Britain said it would provide a further 1.3 billion pounds ($1.60 billion) in military support and aid to Ukraine, making the pledge ahead of a planned video call on Sunday by Group of Seven leaders with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.7 May 2022

Brexit pales into insignificance compared to these figures…

Analysis of the cost of Brexit is, because of the COVID pandemic, not straightforward and will, obviously, depend on the analyst’s viewpoint but he’s a figure:

The Office for Budget Responsibility says Brexit will have a long-term effect of cutting UK GDP by a hefty 4%, an estimate unchanged since early 2020. The Financial Times says such a decline amounts to £100bn in lost output, and £40bn less revenue to the Treasury a year. The UK is now behind all the other G7 nations in the pace of its recovery from the pandemic, with exports by UK small businesses to the EU down significantly.

and another:

Brexit is “largely to blame” for billions being lost in trade and tax revenues in recent years, according to a new study by top economists.

The Centre for European Reform (CER) said that by the end of last year, Britain’s economy was 5.2 per cent – or £31bn – smaller than it would have been without Brexit and the Covid pandemic.

The CER modelled the performance of a “doppelganger” UK – if the nation had remained inside the EU’s single market – using data from other advanced economies similar to the UK.

Mr Springford said “disentangling” the economic effects of Brexit and Covid in recent years was “difficult” – but said it was clear that the bigger negative impact had come from Brexit.

Thanks Omah, but surely, because we have become so reliant on the EU over the years we have neglected our own industry. Fishing, farming, steel etc, it was believed that upon leaving the EU that we could become more independent but it would take time. It would appear that nobody has confidence in the UK anymore, and would prefer to import goods from overseas instead of re energising our own manufacturing base. Too many people chasing knowledge and not rolling their sleeves up and getting dirty.

What a waste of money. This government needs ousting PDQ!

Half a Billion..

I wouldn’t lend money to Zelensky … just sayin.

Don’t the people of this country get to have a say?
I thought Boris was fighting for freedom…We’re no better than the Russian people.

@OldGreyFox , We aint got no say with nato OG !!
Rumour has it that deutchland has offered to pay all its unpaid nato
fees if they will go and turn on their gas again ??
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

The problem here is that Biden will get involved and his track record on defence and foreign policy has been an absolute disaster over past the 48 years or so.

Don’t be surprised if we see Russian troops firing USA made rockets at Ukraine, sold to them by the Taliban.
