Brexit benefits - where are they?

There is an age limit of something like 35, so no good for you or I.

One of the things that Boris negotiated to allow our agriculture into Britain was that the Australian working visa doesn’t stipulate that UK young people must work in remote areas as previously applied. He said that it wasn’t fair because the restriction didn’t apply to Aussies working in the UK. So now we will see more French and Scandinavian girls working behind the bar in some remote roadhouse somewhere or picking fruit in the sun while the pommies work in a Bondi cafe

Oh it’s great. It was so much fun over here when we had lots of Oz and Kiwi workers. They had endless parties and filled our massive skills gaps.

This popped up in my Youtube feed and presumably he knows what he is talking about, he is an MP. Quite an interesting talk

He makes a telling point at 7.30 which we hear repeated in this forum over and over again. The whole speech is very interesting however

I was very disappointed that he didn’t make leader of the labour party.

I have never heard of him but he speaks very well. Is he any relation to Wedgewood Benn?

Me too, the best PM we never had?

I don’t think he’s forceful enough, too nice and a decent bloke

Being nice and a decent bloke would make him a great prime minister of course, especially compared to that self-serving low-life Johnson and his chumocracy, lies and corruption

But nice decent people don’t get to the top jobs nowadays

But he’s like his father, fighting for principles👍

Misleading article. It implies only a French car company has serious concerns over Brexit.
They all do.
Once again, the benefits of Brexit are proving to be negative.

Except its nothing to do with Brexit.

Nice try.

I did read that the business minister stated that the issues raised by multiple car companies are not to do with Brexit. That is, the issues the car companies have with the Brexit trading agreement and how it will impact future tariffs on cars is nothing to do with Brexit. You and she in accord - the problems with the Brexit arrangements are nothing to do with Brexit.
How’s the treatment for your cognitive dissonance coming along?

You should listen to people that know what they are talking about.

Even Nigel Farage has admitted it .
Brexit is a failure

This is the new narrative being promoted by NatCon and Reform and ERG. Their “logic” goes:

  1. Ok, Brexit has not delivered the huge benefits that we thought it would (this is as close to an apology as we’ll get for the economic problems Brexit has created)
  2. It’s not our fault, we honestly thought it would be beneficial for everyone (it is never their fault of course)
  3. It is the fault of the remainer and ineffectual people who put the current sham* of a Brexit in place and caved into the evil EU demands (now claiming that Johnson, Frost et al were in fact weak remain supporters)

The theory goes that if this is repeated often enough people will forget what actually happened and go along with this charade. They are confident that no-one will remember the promises of a pain free transition and a better deal with the EU than was already in place.
But it does confirm there are no benefits from Brexit. So a step forward in one sense. But a step back because contrary to normal logic of “stop digging when you’ve made a mistake” this false logic claims the route to success is to keep digging. In fact, double up on the digging. Borrow a JCB (it has to be a Bamford machine) and dig deeper and faster. This logic says that the only way out of this hole is to dig a deeper hole. That’s how good this logic is.

  • ‘sham’ is in fact a harder Brexit than was presented at the time of the referendum, so no sham at all

And just like that …

Of course a devalued pound helps exports. It’s hardly a good news story when you actually read past the headline.

You can actually have a situation where Brexit kind of boosts services trade by harming another sector more.

"It means that – somewhat counterintuitively – the flip-side to the much-highlighted weakness in goods is an improvement in services.”

The EU is in decline it has been for years. Joining it would be like joining failure

The benefits of a centralised treasury. Something the EU has failed at achieving

You have got to be kidding yourself if you think that there is any chance that Britain would be allowed to rejoin the EU, at least for decades

Best news ever

Certainly must be better than any economic news, at last a straw to cling to.
