The Prime Minister is visiting north Wales today as questions over his future continue. He is joining Welsh secretary Simon Hart on his trip today to “see levelling up in action”, his spokesman said.

There is no still no confirmation Downing Street has been sent the Cabinet Office report compiled by Sue Gray into parties and events held at Downing Street during lockdown and no certainty when it will be published.

Legal and human resources officials are understood to be scrutinising it before it can be sent to Downing Street for publication. And Mr Johnson was photographed this morning leaving No.10 for north Wales, where he is expected to arrive mid morning.

The Prime Minister is committed to making a Commons statement after receiving the report, but as he is in north Wales this morning and the House is due to finish sitting at 5pm on Thursday and no Government business scheduled on Friday that could push the timing of any address to MPs into next week.

A trip to Wales for BJ - how convenient …

Foxy you have it wrong again of course he used his own name .
John Smith was regarded as a man of integrity - decent and honest and was widely expected to lead Labour to victory at the next general election and become prime minister.
He is buried on Iona the island of kings .

The Sue Gray Report has been released.

The Met Police have told Sue Gray to keep key details out of her report into lockdown parties in No 10, throwing the process into confusion. The Met says it does not want Ms Gray’s report - which had been due to be published this week - to “prejudice” their investigation.

Many in the Cabinet Office, where Ms Gray’s team is based, were taken by surprise by the Met’s statement. There are now doubts about whether her report can be published as planned.

In a statement on Friday morning, the Met said they had asked Ms Gray to make “minimal reference” reference to events they are investigating. But they insisted they had not asked for Ms Gray’s report to be delayed. The force added it had not requested “any limitations” on what her report says about gatherings that are not being investigated by its officers.

Met Commissioner Cressida Dick announced on Tuesday the force had launched its own inquiry, after being handed information by Ms Gray. It has not specified how many of the gatherings covered in Ms Gray’s inquiry it has decided to investigate. There have been media reports of 17 gatherings in government buildings while Covid restrictions were in place - but Ms Gray has not said how many of those are being investigated.

However, it has been confirmed that the events she is looking into include a “bring your own booze” drinks event in the No 10 garden in May 2020 attended by Boris Johnson, and a staff gathering to celebrate the PM’s birthday in June 2020.

I suppose we should have expected that anything to do with BJ would end in a shambles or a farce …

We should be worried about the timings of the accusations of parties in Number 10.

If these accusations came out at the time the parties were held, we would have been in lock down. The consequence of revealing accusations would conclude that the government and the civil service didn’t believe or trust SAGEs advice and would result in the immediate abolishment of the lockdowns.

The worrying part is that these accusations have come out at the end of the lockdowns. This means some sinister forces are at work to remove Johnson and lock us down again.

Hi

No point publishing the report if the details of the parties are redacted.

There is no 6 month limit for fixed penalty notices.

The Met, under Cressida Dick has been a disaster, the Tories wanted her out not long ago but she has now been given an extension to her Contract.

The entire thing is a smokescreen, the police already have the evidence they need, in the form of statements and records from the Police Officers in Downing Street and swipecards, CCTV and photos.

Who is this partying in Japan

So, will the report be a watered-down whitewash?

Will Sue Gray, not wishing to be accused of publishing an incomplete report, withhold the report pending the results of the police investigation?

What will BJ’s Tory “enemies” do, in the meantime, if crucial “evidence” is missing?

Why are the police so concerned about “hiding” certain enquiries when any guilt established by them would only result in, at most, a fine?

Some legal figures have questioned the rationale behind the Met’s request.

Nazir Afzal OBE, former chief crown prosecutor for North West England and a former head of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, said the move was “absolute nonsense” and a “purely factual report by Sue Gray cannot possibly prejudice a police investigation”.

I don’t think anyone cares anymore - Labour are losing their lead in the polls.

Remember this? :slightly_smiling_face:

Sue Gray is expected to deliver her report on No 10 parties to the PM without waiting for the police inquiry to conclude, the BBC has been told.

The Met Police had asked Ms Gray to make only “minimal reference” to “relevant events” in order to “protect the integrity” of its investigation.

This has led to concerns Ms Gray’s report could be delayed.

It is unclear what details may need to be omitted from the report, following the Met’s request.

We shall see what we shall see … :expressionless:

Investigations take so long, the original thrust disappears.

A heavily-censored version of Sue Gray’s report into alleged lockdown-breaching parties at No 10 is to be presented to Boris Johnson “shortly”, with a source close to the inquiry telling The Independent the document will be stripped of key details as per the requests of Scotland Yard.

After receiving evidence requested from the Cabinet Office, police this evening promised to complete their investigations into the parties “promptly” and will be writing to all those identified by Ms Gray’s team “as having potentially breached [Covid] regulations”.

If there was an original thrust…

Extract:

Tory backbencher Sir Christopher Chope today accused Scotland Yard of overstepping its duties and of committing an ‘abuse of power’.

He told the BBC: ‘I don’t think it’s anything of their business. This is a Cabinet Office inquiry and the findings have been concluded, and they’ve been shared – I don’t know why – with the Metropolitan Police. Now the Metropolitan Police seem to be interfering both in the content of the report and trying to prevent it being published in an unredacted form.

‘Under the rules of law which apply in our country, this is not sub judice. If they were about to bring charges, or had brought charges against individuals, then it obviously would have been sub judice and it wouldn’t even be able to be discussed in the House of Commons. But it’s not sub judice, and that’s why I think this is an abuse of power by the Metropolitan Police.’

I’m just wondering what else is going on behind closed doors that’s been covered up by this diversion. Some law sneaked in behind everybodys back while we were being preoccupied by this farce.
