Beyond Retirement: Should We Be Forcing Older Adults Out of Leadership Roles to Make Room for the Young?

Maturity, experience and the wisdom learned over a long lifetime are things that cannot be bought or stolen, only earned. I think the general view of older people in the media sometimes is very limited. In the adverts that are all over any programmes aimed at seniors, we are seen as merely existing on memories, spending our time going round garden centres and being thrilled at the idea of our own funeral (especially if we get that all important free pen.) Instead, I feel we have a lot to say, a lot to give, a lot we can pass on and teach others. Not to mention personal experience of history. Life is a strange thing ~ we learn so much in life and then it is gone. It’s a shame we can’t sort of download our experience so it does some good in the world.

There’s a good reason why most successful empires were advised by the elders.
