I remember seeing a documentary about Benny Hill and what happened to him after his show was cancelled. Apparently despite his riches, he lived like a pauper in a tiny house and didn’t buy anything unless he had to. I believe he died without having a family and his nephew inherited his fortune.

I don’t think it was even a house, it was just a rented flat until he moved out of London when he bought a flat in Teddington I think.

I think Morecambe nd Wise were quite ordinary in their early days.The usual straight man/funny man routine.It wasn’t until Eddie Braben started writing for them they started to become special.
