Ann being one of 3 MPs killed in the last 9yrs ,
Jo Cox and David Amess .
It would now seem terrorism and political violence in the U.K.has become part of everyday life.

There’s a lot of them even without totting up the wastrels in the House of Lords. There are risks involved in being a public figure, there is never any shortage of applicants.

This thread might soon become increasingly unpleasant to read.
If nothing else, from my point of view the murder of Ann Widdicombe has highlighted the current trend for a great many people to base their opinion on or be indoctinated in their views by social media pressure … by the hatred often expressed freely online and regurgitated around the web.
I find some of it quite shocking and extreme.
It’s not a good or healthy thing.
Ordinary people should not feel under pressure to comply to the views of the alleged and often self-professed ‘enablers’ or ‘influencers’.
As an aside perhaps restricting under 16’s access and pressure to such content is a good thing, if indeed it is even practicalbly possible.

This is true and aligns with the thread on some countries banning social media for children. The social media companies have pushed the concept that they are not responsible for any content on their platforms. Yet at the same time they create algorithms to promote certain posts and ignore others. It is all about retaining their audience and outrage hooks people in more than anything else. The social media companies are free to influence what people get pushed but claim they are not responsible for such content. This is plainly wrong.
But when the EU fines US tech companies for breaking the laws over search impartiality (for example, this being very clear rules that were very clearly broken to boost profits) we get the Trump reaction. That is, threats of tariffs and retribution… These social media billionaires knew exactly what they were doing when they cozied up to Trump and gifted him tens of millions. And that is now what the rest of the world is up against. Try to restrict or punish such tech company bad behaviour and Trump punishes you.
