An Incredible Power Demand at 1am

A very interesting thing happened to the WA energy prices during the night (WA is not connected to the east coast grid)

About 1am, prices on the spot market started to soar.

They had been hovering at an elevated level of roughly $120 per megawatt-hour (MWh) but suddenly began to climb to extreme highs of more than $350/MWh.

It was caused by all the state owned batteries starting to charge at once, exactly the thing the batteries are supposed to prevent. I suspect there will be some changes to the battery control systems.
