Since you don’t live in a Constitutional Republic. It would be redundant to define all issues relevant to Democratic Socialism to you. I am only concerned with how it impacts the US. Brits have their own issues to resolve. It is easy to be judgemental when you don’t experience the erosion of Constutional Rights an Freedoms, but of course you don’t have a Constitution.
You are completely misunderstanding my point, so let me explain. The US public (as in, not private) education system is known for its poor quality in many states. This is the basic education for children and nothing to do with tertiary education. It is so bad in some parts of the US that basic knowledge is poor, mathematics is poor, reading and writing skills are poor and the ability to apply normal judgement using insight and logic is poor. That was the poor education I was referring to. It is under-invested and prone to distracting behaviour by the kids.
Note - before anyone gets super defensive of the US please note that I know such poor education exists in many other countries.
I think similar issues can be found in the UK also Lincs, with young people at both ends of the education spectrum being dispirited and disappointed with their lot in life which leads to unmotivated people, scroungers and increases in crime and drug abuse.
I apologise for bringing the topic home, but it’s just how I see it here.
I’m afraid I can’t speak for America with only seeing them on the telly (‘Blue Bloods’ I could visualise @RightNow working in the crime commissioners office alongside Frank Reagan) and briefly in the news.
Well thanks for that lesson in avoidance and obfuscation.
It is precisely because of your specific concern about the US that I have been asking for you to expand / detail your claim about socialism in the democratic party. Do not let the constitutional structures in any other country distract you. Crack on with providing justification for your claim of socialism - by who, what policiies or plans, in what way socialist?
You state that I am being judgemental. I am very obviously not, I am asking for examples of your judgement. So stop avoiding the question - exactly what socialist policies or plans do you see?
Mo. politicians are trying to change the State Constitution so voters in one Congressional voting district can control the other 7 districts and veto their votes.
I can only surmise that public Education is going Online and Smart Phone areas. Going to a class will be for Personal attendance education and public behaviors, reasons.
I can surmise that the future is bound by the current capability for intelligent Road Repairs and not the neglect now available.
You just got to know, “Well, thas just never going to happen. Digital yes!” You will be worth your Digits says! Elon most likely $10,000,000,000,000. You most likely $75,000 living in a 2 story shack on a poorly maintained town street. All you need to do is look around at all the streets / intersections / bridge underpasses under repairs today.

Its like they are already desperate!
This observation becomes interesting in light of this week’s win in the Michigan primaries by Abdul El-Sayed. This is of course only the primaries and only determines which Democrat candidate stands in the election. But his Democrat opponent was backed by party HQ while El-Sayed was backed by the party’s left - AOC, Warren, Saunders. So a significant vote against the mainstream Democrat order. In that sense he and the left are dividing the Democrat party.
But when you look at his policy platform, El-Sayed is not really that radical and certainly not socialist. His three main policy themes are getting money out of politics & cleaning up politics; stopping the worst corporate behaviors, invest in R&D, tax billionaires; and provide medicare for all & break up the current healthcare model. Left of centre yes (about as far left as a centrist European government) but far away from socialism.
It shows just how centre-right the Democrat leadership is and how they are out of touch with many voters.
The misjustice in America is the Wealthy are not paying their +40% income taxes to State, Local and Federal Government Tax agencies. I remember working OT. Tripple time Holidays. One day’s pay, I was owed for holiday. One day’s pay for working it and One day’s pay in extra benefit for working it. And I ended with one day’s pay. I usually worked more than 2 holidays a year due to Maintenance needed by the plant. Never heard of a Wealthy person leaving his desk with him paying out that % without ever seeing the cash.
He wants to abolish ICE, and that’s where he’s going to get annihilated. He should have just kept that to himself so he could focus on the economy, the war in Iran, Trump’s corruption, etc…
His opponent, Mike Rogers, is an election denier and Trump sycophant. El-Sayed is actually fairly moderate and pragmatic. Had he not come out and said that ICE should be abolished, Rogers would have nothing to attack him with other than fear mongering about socialism and racist tropes.
In fact, all Republicans have to run on is border security. Take that away and they have nothing. El-Sayed gave them an enormous gift and might have given away the election with it.
We shall see.
With all the Socialist Democrats and Islamic extremist will learn, hopefully the hard way. They will learn that under socialism, the government will make all your decisions for you and require people to think. In which we are seeing in some European countries already. Then the other half is where religion rules over the people. All those complaining about the posting of the ten commandments will learn that in nothing compared to Islamic rule.
It is clear that the US, in general with a few exceptions, have a truly warped view of slightly left of centre political policies - and of Europe. Just because your beloved leader has been going around making up a threat of imminent communism that does not mean there is any evidence of communism or socialism. But, hey, you do you. Stay wedded to the neo-liberal version of unconstrained capitalism that has done so much for the very wealthy and so little to benefit anyone else. Enjoy.
Addendum - a note to help the hard of understanding. The neo-liberal unrestricted, low tax free market has been pushed since the Reagan era. This has done very well at rapid economic growth. So corporations and the already wealthy have increased their wealth enormously as a result of this economic growth. Everyone else, literally the remaining 95% have seen their wealth and earnings diminish in real terms - and the social/health support get cut. (I am not just describing the US - a little note for the more US centric reader). That is what we call a bad thing. To counter what is so evidently a bad thing those in power, and with wealth, need to find ways to stop people working out that there are other models to follow - perhaps models that benefit the 95% rather than only benefit the already rich. So they create a fake bogeyman, call it socialism / communism, and claim that everything that is not the neo-liberal model is in fact that bogeyman. And people (I wonder who I’m thinking of here) appear to be dumb enough to believe that bogeyman story.
Quick question. Why is there only 2 political parties in the USA? To me that seems a very limited choice. and not democracy.
The United States has a two-party system dominated by the Democratic Party (center-left) and the Republican Party (center-right). While dozens of minor third parties exist and qualify for state ballots, only Democrats and Republicans hold major power in Congress and the presidency
This is from Wikipedia (and myself as a certified inspector working voting polls for over ten years)…
Political parties are not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution which predates the party system. The two-party system is based on laws, party rules, and customary laws. Several third parties also operate in the U.S. and occasionally have a member elected to local office; some of the larger ones include the Constitution, Green, Alliance, and Libertarian parties, with the Libertarian being the largest third party since the 1980s. A small number of members of the U.S. Congress, a larger number of political candidates, and a good many voters (35–45%) have no party affiliation. However, most self-described independents consistently support one of the two major parties when it comes time to vote and members of Congress with no political party affiliation [caucus] to pursue common legislative objectives with either the Democrats or Republicans.
Hope this helps clarify your question. ![]()
If we translate the US explanation of the two party system into a more European view of politics then it looks more like:
The US political landscape is dominated by money and lobbying. This means politicians need to appeal to rich backers - either corporate or private. Essentially this means they all need to advocate things that benefit corporations or the privately wealthy. Thus there is a centre-right to quite far right spread (in European terms of politics) across Democrat to Republican. This stance is defended by claiming that things that enrich corporations and the wealthy are good for the whole country. This dependence of vast scale of funding also means those able to provide the funding are not going to offer millions to a third or fourth party that has little or no chance of winning power. The money only goes to the big two parties, such is the corrupted nature of this sort of politics.
The first past the post system and the tribal nature of US politics means it is highly confrontational. It is rarely consensus, cooperative or likely to result in anything other than critcising the other side. This confrontation keeps the media busy with showing these two sides with no need or desire to provide airtime to third or fourth parties and is not obliged to present a balance of views across all parties. Indeed, with a media largely owned by right wing wealthy, who always support those with policies that enrich them further, has zero incentive to give airtime to other views.
So a third or fourth parties will not get funded, will not get airtime to explain their plans, will only get criticised by existing politicians who do get airtime. And even then, the first past the post model means they have zero chance of gaining enough votes & representatives to win anything, anywhere.
During this nomination process, each political party nominates a presidential and vice-presidential candidate who can win the General Election.
This was not done in the case of Harris and Walz.
So the rich get richer and the less well off loose. A country that is controlled by money has a serious flaw in the structure. Definitely not democratic as in the meaning of the word
RS from your posts you have nave moved up the social structure because of money, you have grafted and worked to have acquired that cash, that is that system, never dis the crumbs ![]()
Americans normal every day items is surprising to Brits. A British guy doesn’t understand having outlets in the bathroom. The next one is three Brits females trying to figure out a garbage disposal. Than a British female is amazed at what kitchen faucet can do. The size of an average refrigerator, walk in closets, Air conditioning, toilet paper rolls, location of washer and dryers and the size of them. Acts surprised how fast a dryer works. Is amazed at the size of an everyday standard oven. A german girl trying to figure out a ceiling fan and it’s purpose and fears of being struck by a fan blade. Wow, simple don’t stick anything into the blades!. Also surprised of the size of a refrigerator with multiple ice and water dispensers.
Seems like they can’t comprehend what the Americans have in an average everyday home. Yet some think they can figure out the American government.
