Airline ditches paper boarding passes

This news article implies that if you are over 55 then you don’t own a smart phone … and still travel by air. Strikes me that in the Venn diagram there is only a tiny overlap between “over 55 and use air travel” and the circle “over 55 and don’t have a smart phone”. My other guess is that the people who still print out their boarding pass only do so because they prefer to have a tangible hard copy for peace of mind. It must be over 15 years since I last printed a boarding pass.

I didn’t travel abroad last year, that was the first time in about 50 years. I have a smart phone, but back in '23 I don’t think it was required. I had my passport and my plastic card, that was all the ID required. If I do use a plane again, installing the airline app won’t be a problem. But I am concerned about having to use that app on my phone, and paying by phone. I will use the app at home on my computer and pay by internet banking.
