A knotty problem to solve

It cannot remain anchored indefinitely, could they seal the containers holding the fertiliser to prevent it leaking into the sea.

I would have expected some money-orientated shipping magnate to offer help of some description. With various tugs and maritime expertise to the fore, some solution must exist, surely :man_shrugging: If not, let our RN use it for gunnery practice, then tow the wreckage away for scrap :+1:

“Should the ammonium nitrate start to leak out of the ship and contaminate the sea… shipping through the channel would have to be diverted to avoid further shifting the pollution through its waters,” he said.

He added that damage as a result of the potential scenario would be “immense” and cause “ongoing disruption”.

Lets hope the weather holds out and it can continue safely to port.

A spokesperson for the owning company said: “There has been considerable media speculation surrounding the bulk carrier Ruby, a Maltese owned and flagged vessel, since it left Kandalaksha, Russia on 22 August 2024.

Ammonium nitrate is a commonly transported cargo by this method and poses no threat to the ship, crew or surrounding environment in the vessel’s current state.

Have to accept that it will have to dock, and that the statement is correct.

The locals are getting worried, the comments hilarious.

Solved. The same way as knotty SS. Montgomery

Baroness Barran said most of the explosives still aboard the sunken vessel were TNT, which “is likely to be inert because of the fuses having degraded over time”.
There U Go. It takes a Baroness, to allay fears That Reform Party :upside_down_face: or The Thames Barrier. Are secure. :innocent:

Now the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has admitted 300 tonnes of the 20,000 tonne load has become contaminated by seawater - leading to it being dumped out to sea.

MCA still insists that the contaminated ammonium nitrate was not a risk to the people of Norfolk.
