The nearest departure to us is Southwold, a trip on Thames under Tower Bridge. Celebrating 75th Anniversary.
We were in Poole Harbour last Wednesday and watched the Waverley depart, a beautiful ship indeed, how lucky to be able to sail on her…
What a good day.Seeing those legends and a trip on the Waverley.I enjoyed an excursion to Ilfracombe on her years ago.
An opportunity you should not miss.
Yeah …to get on board the entrance was in the harbour train station…. so I didn’t actually see waverly until I was on the gangway , then I was to close to snap her ….but here is a photo of the mighty engine room
Yeah today is Waverly’s last day on the south coast before sailing for London .
@Ripple @Barry , Cor Blimey, wot a beauty !!
And practically silent l bet ??
I love the engine room ??
Thanks for that ??
Hee hee no not the breakers behave donkey
London is to be the next port of call for a few days …before travelling on…
@Ripple , Fank Christ for that !
Pity the didn’t take her up to London for the funeral, she would have made
a small fortune ??
Wow this post took me back to my teens 60 odd years ago The Waverley used to operate out of Bournemouth and at times I’d rush out of work ,dash along the pier and take sometimes a running jump to do her nightly voyage to Poole where she spent the night. I was going out with one of the crew members who lived in Weymouth ,and we used to dock in Poole and do the tour of the pubs .
My pal was seasick once when we got near Old Harry Rocks on a rough night.
Fabulous memories.
@Octogen , Did she used to call at Lullworth cove Octogen ?
If so l have seen her, when she pulled in there while l was swimming
in the cove, and all her passengers trooped off up to the only pub ??
Great days, and a great looking ship ! To think she is still going eh !!
There was also a similar vessel used to operate out of dartmouth ?
Could that be the same boat ?
Hi
What a lovely day out.
I would have been champing at the bit, stop here, I need to fish.
I’ve been on another,The Balmoral.It’s not a paddle steamer though.
It’s not a noisy boat however if you stand on the deck above the paddles you are very aware of them
What a wonderful experience, Ripple!
Also Timothy & Prunells’s Canal boat adventures was something I never missed, I loved that series!
