Apparently a hgv driver can earn £20 per HR now due to the
shortage of drivers!
And Tesco has even offered new drivers £1000 to start driving
for them ??
I don’t think their new hourly rate is anywhere near enough ?
After all a solicitor can get well over £100 per HR and what use are
they to society ??
Surely in a capitalist country the law of supply and demand should
apply to all ??
A wage should be based on added value to their employer. Nothing to do with what they do, just the value they represent as a result of doing their job. Market values will obviously affect a wage based on the scarcity of the skill they possess but let’s take a lorry driver and a solicitor as a comparison. All a lorry driver does is drive a vehicle from A to B albeit he will have a period of training in order to gain an appropriate license. His personal VALUE to his employer by doing his job is not a great deal.
On the other hand a solicitor will have a high added value to his employer and must be paid appropriately because apart from anything else by doing his job he will be bringing in big bucks by his personal effort.
