24 Home Improvement Books.
The first one was a special price, say, $5, the next 23 were about $11.95 each.
Total cost of approximately $280.
I bought the whole set and was still rather useless at DIY.

They usually ended up in Op Shops, my kids once bought me a Readers Digest one for $5 which was mostly useless. I thought I might still have it but after a quick look in my bookshelves it looks like no
80’s the Knack and I first thought of this;
My Sharona.
Fortunately my father was good at DIY and I learnt a lot helping him,
There was a film in the 1960s called The Knack too. The soundtrack was by a group like The Searchers I think it was filmed by Richard Lester who directed the Beatles Hard Days Night. I also think it starred Rita Tussingham ( all that could be completely wrong am going entirely by memory)
At the time I enjoyed it but I doubt it has aged well. It is probably on YouTube
Edit: The trailer is
Bruce… I’d like to buy you a drink! ![]()
That trailer hit the spot as soon as I started to watch it… superb!
Yep deffo Rita Tussigham and of course Michael Crawford. Note that he he’s already performing Frank Spencer type stunts with that oil barrel on The Thames.
I’ve just checked Amazon, lo and behold…
Ordered a second hand copy for just over four quid! ![]()
It’s all very appealing, shot in black and white and in London as it was, a bit of social history.
Also not horribly politically correct as far as I can see, that makes a refreshing change!
There are a few British films from that era that stick in my mind, they were very trendy at the time and I think can remember the stars:
Blowup - Vanessa Redgrave, David Hemmings music by the Yardbirds; was a mystery, druggy thing (did it really happen)?
Darling - of course my one true love Julie Christie and I think Dirk Bogarde
Morgan, A Suitable Case for Treatment - Vanessa Redgrave again and David Warner as I recall. (Not David Warner’s from the Suburbs)
Billy Liar - Tom Courtney and the ever lovely Julie Christie - Loved this movie
No doubt the trailers for all these films are on YouTube, at the time of release I thought these movies were brilliant but I do not know how they have stood the test of time. They were a particular type of film of their era and may not have aged well.
Conversely I think that can be part of the attraction…
